S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. This means that Tim maintained at least a 3.0 GPA or better. Tim, a 1988 graduate of San Juan High, is the son of Rodney and Betty He carried an academic work load of 20 hours. Barry and Laurie Simpson Workman. are in Brazil on a gem-buyin- g trip. Their first stop was Brasilia and they hope to do some sight seeing as well as take care of business. Barry has been to Brazil several times, but this is Lauries first visit. Former Blanding residents, Kevin Palmer, 16, and Brian Palmer, 13 received their Eagle Scout awards at the Kanab Second Ward Court of Honor on January 8, 1989. They are sons of Kenneth Vee and Peggy Palmer of Kanab, and grandsons of Dolores Bayles and the late Scott L. Bayles and Kenneth and Marba Palmer of Blanding. Kevin, a junior at Kanab High School, is involved in the VICA and Spanish clubs, and is employed with Western River Expeditions of Fredonia, Arizona. Brian is in the eighth grade at Kanab Middle School where he is an honor student. He is also a member of the Order of the Arrow in the scouting program. There have been several fires in Blanding the past few weeks. The William Foy home was damaged in a fire early in the month. A north Blanding home had a chimney fire and a trailer house south of town was damaged by fire. There is a lot of illness in Blanding due to a flu virus. Lots of absenteeism at the school this week. Local author will address students Author Paul Pitts will Address San Juan High students on Friday, January 27 at 9 a.m. At that time, winners of the recently held creative writing contest will be announced. The program will take place in the Little Theater, A building, and the public is invited. Pitts, a teacher at Montezuma Creek Elementary School, has published two novels for youth: For a Good Time Don't Call Claudia , and Racing the Sun. He has won numerous writing awards from the Utah Arts Council and has served as an instructor for the Utah Writers Angeles Times reviewed Racing the Sun. She called the book a fine story with a message for kids whatever their heritage. Respect your elders and be proud of who you are. The story is about a Navajo boy who grows up in an Anglo society in a large city. When Brandon ld finds out his Navajo grandfather, Shinali, is coming from the reservation to live with his family, he is not thrilled.
