Echoing the past, about 30 runners came to Montezuma Creek on Saturday to run a 10K ( roller coaster course set up by VISTA volunteers. The course began approximately six miles west of Montezuma Creek on the Bluff e road. The fun run started south of Whitehorse High across the San Juan River bridge. Finish line was at the Whitehorse High track field. Martin Yellowman, age 16 and winner of a recent 10K run in Blanding, won the race with a time of 39:48. Yellowman lives in Montezuma Creek. Alfred Stash of Blanding took second with a time of 40:49. Third place went to Wayne Roanhorse with 41:05. Tom Yellowman came in fourth. Annette Teare of Montezuma Creek, a housewife and mother of two boys, took the womens title with a time of 52:56. Ive been running for about a year. This is my first 10K run this year, said Teare. Someday I want to run a marathon. Tara Laws took first in four events: the or 3200 meter, with a time of 12:06; the 1600 meter with 5:36.66; the 400 meter, with 1:04.09;' and the 800 meter, with 2:29.07. Laws time in the 800 meter broke her old school record. Brittney Shumway took sixth in the 100 meter. The team took third. Running the relay were Shumway, Angie Marion, Nedra Palmer, and Stephanie Singer. The 1600-metrelay team, consisting of Singer, Kammy Pugh, Jana Benally, and Doriene Barfuss, Ben-all- y was happy with the toumout. We wanted to get the community together to be aware of their physical health and to have fun. Taking care of registration, refreshments and prizes were two-mil- volunteers Ethelene White- horse, Loren Holly, Gibson Montano and Malvina Shaggy. Timing the race were Jim Baker, Maile Loo, Bryan Lusk and Paul Nihipali. e The fun run winner, Dave Hadley, finished in 6:46. Leo Platero finished at 7:45. Platero had to push hard to beat Kelly Kalauli, third place finisher. Jared Stevenson came in fourth at 8:05, followed by female winner Susan Hadley at second place in the San Juan Track Invitational. In the dash, Brittney Shumway placed fourth at 14.52. Jodi Black took sixth with 15.63. Kammy Pugh placed sixth in the 400 dash. San Juan placed second in the 4 x 100 relay, third in the medley relay, and second in the 1600 relay. San Juan boys placed fifth with 34 points.
