Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday April 1, 1987 - Page 5 Hospital board Property tax relief for senior citizens The possibility of loaning money to licensed practical nurses interested in becoming registered nurses was discussed at the March 18 meeting of the San Juan County Health Care Board. If made, such loans would be available only to licensed practical nurses employed at the hospital. The Board discussed continuing efforts to recruit registered nurses to the area. The shortage of registered nurses nation- citizens who meet certain income requirements may be eligible for property tax credit of $25 to $300, says the Utah State Tax commission. The Circuit Breaker Program is available for property owners, mobile home owners and renters who are 65 years of age or older, or for widows and widowers regardless of age. The program is administered by the counties and the Utah State Tax Commission. Individuals must meet the following requirements for the Circuit Breaker Program: 1. The applicant must have been a legal resident of Utah for the entire year for which the claim is made, and must own Senior wide complicates the problem. Steve Warren Fire damages Blanding home At about 2:15 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, March 21, Blanding volunteer firefighters responded to a house fire at 200 West 300 South. The upstairs portion of the house was fully involved before firemen arrived at the scene. It took about 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control and a truck stayed at the address for another four hours until it was cold. Besides being on a $5 bill, Abraham Lincoln's portrait is also on a $1,000 savings bond. Revival meetings in Monticello WALLTEX 30 A spokesman for the fire department says that the fire apparently started on the second floor and was probably caused by faulty electrical wiring. The home belongs to S.E.G.O. Development and has been rented for the last two months by Mr. and Mrs. Gary Reiz. ' The public is invited to attend special revival services at the San Juan Community Evangelical Free Church in Monticello April 10 through 13. Services will be held' each evening at 7:30 p.m. and at the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday morning. The guest Evangelist will be the Reverend Mike Shea of Keokuk, Iowa. He comes with a solid Bible based message and a strong desire to assist the local church. There will be special music each service. at and occupy the home as of January 1 of the year for which the claim is made. 2. The total household annual income must be less than $10,000, including any income from children, grandchildren or others living in the home. Income includes, but is not limited to, wages, income, interest, dividends, rents, social security, pensions, unemployment compensation, and welfare payments (excluding food stamps). 3. The property owner must provide over 50 percent of his or self-employme- nt her total support. 4. The property owner must meet all of the above qualifica tions on or before December 31 of the year being claimed. Property owners can file a claim for property tax credit with the county. The deadline for filing is May 1. Renters may receive a refund based on the rent paid and the household income received for the year preceding the year the claim is made. Mobile home owners can receive a refund based on the property taxes paid on the mobile home plus the amount paid as rent for the space in the mobile home park. Renters and mobile home owners must make their claim with the Utah State Commission. The amount of the refund or credit is based on the income of the property owner and the amount of the property taxes or rent paid. The refund or credit cannot exceed $300.
