Show T THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday April 2, 1986 - Page 16 Gonorrhea cases in Utah increase During 1985, Utah reported a total of 1,388 cases of gonorrhea, representing an increase of 6.1 percent over the 1,308 cases reported in 1984, according to the Utah Department of Health. Gonorrhea morbidity was reported from 19 (65.5 percent) of Utahs 29 counties: San Juan reported 38 cases. Only Salt Lake County, Utah County. Weber County and Davis County reported a higher number of cases in 1985 than San Juan. During calendar year 1985, gonorrhea continued to be reported primarily from the 315 following age groups: cases, 22.7 percent of total 540 cases reported; ages for 38.9 percent of total; ages 270 cases for 19.5 percent of 133 cases total; and, ages for 9.6 percent of total reported. Prior to 1985, gonorrhea rates and total cases had declined steadily since 1977. The major 15-1- 20-2- CAUSE FOR CONCERN The use of smokeless tobacco, including snuff and chewing tobacco, is increasing at an alarming rate in this country, especially among young people. The American Cancer Society recommends regular oral exams by your physician or dentist. Cancer and other oral conditions related to the use of smokeless tobacco, are ugly and can be severely disfiguring.
