Show Steps being taken to solve problems on Burr Guard outlining what must be done to gain certification for the operation by UDOT of its ferry. In addition, I would like to know whether or not the Coast Guards inspection, review and approval of the additional information we provide and corrective measures we take will differ from the original review and approval that was conducted prior to construction. If the procedures or criteria will be different, please advise us of what those differences will be. The letter is a result of the Coast Guards refusal to certify the Burr even after the original 45 items of concern had been addressed. The original list from the Coast Guard included resolving the list problem, increasing the pump capacity Steps are being taken by the Utah Department of Transportation to resolve differences with the U.S. Coast Guard concerning the Lake Powell ferry boat, John Atlantic Burr. Prior to the construction of the Burr the Coast Guard gave approval to the design. Since that time, however, they have raised numerous questions about various aspects of the design. UDOT Sturzenegger, Assistant Director, has reGene quested that the Coast Guard provide the necessary information to complete the Burr and meet the certification requirement. In his letter to the Coast Guard, Sturzenegger states, I am hereby requesting a letter from the U.S. Coast REVIVAL ! First Baptist Church, Monticello 7 p.m. June 19, 20, 21 Guest speaker - Wayne Osborne Pastor - testing the public address system, replacement of light bulb and other items. All items on that list have been corrected. However, on May 31 UDOT was informed that further measures would have to be taken before certification would be granted. UDOT has agreed to hire an outside naval architect to review the plans and data on the Burr. We are hopeful that through this letter and, if necessary, further negotiations, that UDOT will be given a list of specific problems that will definitely outline all the work that must be undertaken before certification can be granted. We are very anxious to have this matter resolved and get the stated Burr into sevice, Sturzenegger. Both UDOT and the Coast Guard have a major interest in the safety of the passengers. The delays are costly to the public, the counties involved, the National Park Service, the Del Webb Corporation, and the tourist industry. But also of major concern is the ongoing Single's conference 4 The largest LDS Singles Conference will be held July at various ProvoOrem locations, including the Brigham Young University campus. All single adults, 26 years of age and over, are invited to attend. Registration forms, with a schedule of events, are available from ward and stake YSI and SI representatives. 25-2- 8 ?
