Nationally, this rate decreased from 4.1 in 1980 to 3.9 in 1981. There were 3.6 stillbirths to Utah residents, representing a fetal mortality ratio of 7.7 fetal deaths per 1,000 live births, a decrease of slightly more than one percent from 1980. The fetal mortality ratio nationally was 9.5 per thousand live births in 1979, the latest year for which data are available. There were 17,914 marriages performed and 8,077 divorces and annulments granted in Utah in 1981.
