Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD, Thursday, February 14, 1980 by Florence Galbraith Mr. and Mrs. Roy Johnson went to Salt Late on Friday and had a visit at St. Marks Hospital with her father, Marlon Black. Hiey are pleased to say her father is out of intensive care now and is having therapy on his knee and feeling some better. Youth speaker in 4th Ward meeting Sunday evening was Lori Pincock. Other speakers were members of the Dan Webb family. Speaking were Brett, Roxanne, Kevin, Mrs. Webb and Dan. They spoke on Scripture study in the home. A chorus of six young women sang a number: Lori Pincock, Susan Shumway, Monica Black, Diane Hurst Velyn Webb, and Brenda Black. Melvin Walter accompanied the girls on the piano. and Parley Hurst Agnes left here January 22 to go to California to visit their sons, and Bishop Merrill Bruce and their families. They Hurst, arrived in Duarte, California, that same evening and spent some time with Bruce and his family, then on to Seal Beach to visit Merrill and his family. While in California they visited many interesting shops and a little German town with its quaint shops, etc. They visited an arboretum with its exotic flowers and plants, and other points of interest. While there they attended a lovely dinner honoring Bruce on his birthday, where there were places set for H people. The weather was fine except for some rain. They enjoyed the warm weather without coats. The price of gas was quite high. At church on Sunday they saw Connie Swensons parents, who live there. They were gone around 10 days and were glad to be home again. Melvin Hurst went to Man-t- i, Utah, on Friday to do sessions at the temple. Saturday evening he went on up to Proto visit his daughter, vo Darlene Humphries, and her family and came back to be on his job Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Alma Redd, Mrs. Myrtle Redd and Mr. and Bill Redd went up north last week to be with the family of Mrs. Afton Redd, who passed away January 30, and to attend her viewing and service. Mr. Bill Redd was one - Page 10 and made a trip to Durango, Colorado, one day last week. It was good to see Bernice Burtenshaw out to the high priest party on Thursday evening. She has been confined to her home for a long time, and her friends were all glad to see her again. new 7th Ward is orwith Bishop Kirk ganized Nielson and Maurice Pugh and Jim Kindred as counselors and Steven Bronson as execThe utive secretary. Primary president is Deana Judd and counselors are Marian Nielson and Marianne retary Trantor. President of the Sunday school is Harold Tso ancf counselors are Keele Johnson and Brent Judd, with LaRae Brown secretary. Junior Sunday school coordinator is Linda Roberts. Elders Quorum president is Dana Nielson with Dean and Kim Langton, Roberts and secretary Alan Haun. Honey report in Production of honey in Utah 1979 totaled 2,208,000 an increase of 57 pounds, per cent from the 1978 production of 1,410,000 pounds, according to the Utah Crop and Livestock Reporting Service, USDA. There were 46,000 colonies of bees in Utah, which was 2 per cent below the 47,000 colonies in 1978. Honey production per colony 48 averaged pounds 18 above last pounds years 30 pounds per colony, but 2 pounds under the 50 pounds averaged in 1977. A cold, wet spring followed by a hot, dry summer slowed bee activity and floral growth, limiting the yield per colony somewhat. Mrs. Susan Butt was surprised and happy when her son Curtis and his wife came from Saudi Arabia to visit her for a few days last week. Curtis has been on a work assignment in Saudi Arabia for several years. He expects to bring his wife and children and spend his vacation here next summer. Lynn Lyman and wife Hazel and Jones ined his sisters, Margaret and Susan Butt, comb- i business and pleasure WILLARD WINEY Willard L. Winey, Jr., 58, died February 5 at his home in Monticello. A resident of Monticello 25 years, Mr. Winey was born in Topeka, Kansas, July 27, 1921, to Willard Specials L. Winey, Sr., and Marguerite Cox Winey. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dorothy Ann Bratton. He is survived for Feb. 14 to 20 by Betty Jeanne Wentz, of Tucson, Arizona, and Caroline Hubbard of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Bill graduated from high twin sisters, school Tyson WHOLE FRYERS in Lawrence, Kansas, served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945 as a pharmacists mate and was on duty with the Marines in the South Pacific. He graduated from the University of Kansas in and the University of 1950 Kansas law school in 1953. He was active in golf in MoAt the time of his nticello. death he was employed by the San Juan County road department office. He also had worked for The San Juan Record when George Jones was owner of the paper. Funeral services were held February 9 at the Southern Baptist Church in Monticello. The Rev. Vernon Schaefer ofIn the Garden ficiated. a mens quarwas sung by tet: Dan Shoemaker, Grant Bronson, Lisle and Rob Adams and two songs by Arlene Reed. Pallbearers were Grant Leavitt, Kenneth Christensen, Clyde Christensen, Lynn Ad- ams, John Scorup and Doyle Perkins. Honorary pallbear- ers were Gordon Wood, Craig Leavitt, Doug Pehrson, Roy William Dunow, Mirk Leavitt and Patrick Haskins. A1 Haskins made McDonald, the funeral arrangements.
