UTAH Council still seeking Monticello s city council was to have met again last night (Wednesday) in a special session to discuss the bid for the citys deep well. Bids for the well were to have been opened last week but no bids were received, according to City Manager Clyde Christensen. The city manager said that one drilling company representative attended the regular meeting to discuss the requirements for the well. Christensen said the council will contact other drillers about the well. The drilling project will be financed by a $102,000 grant from the Four -- Corners gional Commission. The Re- pro- ject calls for a 1,600 -- foot deep well on the south end of town. City officials are hoping for a flow of 200 to 500 gallons of water per minute. In other action the city council heard from a local businessman on the north end of town who complained of vehicles making U turns in his parking lot. Christensen said that the council will contact the Utah Department of Transportation to ask for a sign prohibiting U turns in this area. A landowner asked that his property city. be annexed to the Council members spent the majority of the meeting disbudget. cussing the 1977-7- 8 Two drown at Lake Powell A seven-year-o- ld San Juan students earn many awards Buckaroo queen named bids for deep well boy and an elderly woman were accidentally drowned Tuesday afternoon at Lake Powell. Sheriff Rigby Wright said the victims had been identified as Edna M. Jackson, 71, of Chino, California, and Kevin Hunter, 7, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The boy was believed to be Mrs. Jacksons grandson. The sheriff said the two had started fishing about 3 oclock Tuesday afternoon and that Mrs. Jacksons body was seen floating in the lake about an hour later. Kevins body was discovered a few minutes later. There apparently were no witnesses to the incident, the officer said. Site of the tragedy was Slick Rock, south of Halls Crossing. The Leatherette Club held their annual Little Buckaroo Rodeo Queen Contest last Friday evening at the rodeo grounds in Monticello. Robin Steele, 1976 Little Buckaroo Rodeo Queen, was on hand to crown the new queen and present the queen and her two attendants with lovely corsages. Sherry Hancock, 14, of Blanding, was crowned 1977 Little Buckaroo Rodeo Queen. Sherry was sponsored by Family Footwear of Blanding. First attendant is Amber Dalton, 14, of Monticello, sponsored by Bar MK Ranches, and second attendant is Jody Laws, 14, of Blanding, sponsored by Lees Ranchwear. Judges for the event were Betty and Debby Hollar of Ignacio, Colorado. The Leatherette Club would like to extend a special to the other conthanks testants and their June 9, 1977 sponsors: EZ Mart; Lori Pearson, Denise Bond, Sears of Monticello; Caroline Fellmeth, R.J. Awards were presented to many San Juan High School students at the recent annual awards assembly at the school in Blanding.
