Show MHS officers at Chamber Roring said the student officers considered their responsibility to include setting an example for other students, including dressing neatly and cleanly, since the school does not have a formal dress code. But she said students felt parents should be more involved in school affairs, as through PTA, in order to keep track of curriculum changes and other school policies. Also appearing on the luncheon program were Secretary Suzanne Redd, Historian Lillian Montano and Activity Chairman Andy Anderson. John Black, president of the student council at Monticello High School, gave Chamber of Commerce members insight into student government Tuesday, and threw in some observations his adult audience may not have relished. John and the other school officers expressed appreciation for the opportunity to speak at Chamber, but told members that the students differed strongly with some community rules, notably the curfew. He also referred to a communications problem with the Monticello City Council, specifically on a project to place garbage cans with student help, and generally as to how welcome student representatives were at Council meetings. He was told by City Man- 6, Record Juan San The ager Clyde Christensen that the city had delivered on their end of the can project, and by Councilman John Gates that student representatives were LET US HELP YOU DISCOVER WONDERFUL welcome and wanted at Council. The MHS officers were complimentary of the consistent financial and materials help provided to school projects by the business community, as well as community support for athletic teams, band and other activities.
