Show FLORENCE NEWS THIS WEEK AT THE CREEK By LaRue McCulloch We 1 i were sorry to hear that Mickey Miller will be leaving us on the 13th of April for Rosebud, South Dakota. Mickey is one of the nurses at the clinic. We will miss her. Gary Preston came home for a visit this weekend from Provo. Almost everyone was happy to see him again. The Church of Christ had a youth outing at Farmington, New Mexico. They enjoyed bowling, pool, movies, a picnic, etc. Those participating in the fun were Ardith Mas- sey, Karen O dell, Patty and Marvin Lopez, Greg, Geor-giaand Clara Brown, LaRue and RaLyn McCulloch, Eldon y, Pruett, Britt Hair, Carol Jonah Begay and Dee Lee Longorio. They were supervised by Mr. and Mrs. T. Middlebrooke and Mrs. George Brown. Everyone that went a reported fun time. Weekend guests with the Jaymes Helmstetlers were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cazier and their two sons from Orem, na Laf-fert- ' r I Utah. ' r ! Larry Shirley was elected Senior Patrol Leader March 21st. He selected Ernie Thomas as Assistant Senior Leader, Marvin Nez as Librarian, Ronnie Smith as Scribe and John Hays as Quartermaster. The Chief Patrol went on an overnight campout to the sanddunes. A total of seven boys went. The RAs held a car wash on the 23rd from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. They didnt stop once and washed about 15 cars. The rocking 8 square dance club held its last dance for this season. Everyone had lots of fun. Visiting in the Jeff coat home are Mr. and Mrs. Jeffcoat's son Donald Longorio from Eastern New Mexico College at Roswell, New Mexico and Daniel Reiter, the Jeffcoats grandson from Aztec, New Mexico. k Visitors at the Kenneth Jet tons were Brent and Debra Noorda from Salt Lake City. Unfortunately, we have a large hospital bulletin this week. Lori Kemner went on the twentieth to the Cortez Hospital to get her tonsils out. She is home now after a successful operation. Others from here in the hospitals are Tiana McCulloch and Jim Thomas who are in the San Juan Hospital and Don Kemner who is scheduled to go in the Durango hospital on the 27th. We hope theyll soon be out and around. Loren Crank has finished putting the brick on his house. It looks nice. Gloria and Bill Redhouse and their daughter, Shan, are a new family in Montezuma C reek. They live in the White- horse trailer court. Bill is an oil field welder. The plan on staying here for a long time. They are originally from Monument Valley. Tuffy Overton is home from the hospital. The Overtons had visitors on the 22nd and 23rd. They were Cheryl and Kenneth Ward and their son, Justin. Truman and Neva Cox and grandson Kenny Ford visited Sunday with the Jaymes Helmstetlers. We could hear the guitar picking, feet stomping music they were making at all corners of El Paso Camp. Linda and Chris Hurst from Monticello visited the McAl-pin- e Red-hous- es home on the 24th. Edith Begay has moved from her trailer down the hill to Susie Prestons house. She will finish the school year with the Prestons. On the 21st, there were about 30 individuals visiting the Montezuma Creek School. were from Monument They Valley, Oljato, Bluff, Mexican Hat, Blanding and Montezuma Creek areas. They represented the Parent Advisory which is inCommittee, terested in better schools for the students. They seemed to enjoy their visit and gave some (Please turn to page 15) SErSier Mrs. Fern Simpson, who has been living in Camp Verde, Arizona, this past winter, has spent the past week in Blanding visiting and attending to business matters. Their home is here. Mr. Simpson (Woody) her husband, has employment in Camp Verde. While here, Mrs. Simpson was visited by her brother Claude who lives in Arizona. Mrs. Simpson and Mrs. Grace Shumway are sisters . They had an enjoyable time together. and Mrs. Mr. Melvin Holyoak and four children came from Gallup, New Mexico on Thursday to spend the day. Mrs. Holyoak and Mrs. Leo Black are sisters. Coming from Ogden for a few days visit were Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Brown of Ogden the first of the week. Mrs. Brown is a daughter of Mrs. Theressa Redd. On Saturday evening the bir- thday club met at the home of Afton Stevens where they were served a bounteous banquet by Mrs. Stevens. The table was decorated in an Easter theme. Mrs. Volate Shumway was a special guest. Due to give members having birthdays in April, Mrs. Stevens decided to have her party in March. Mrs. Stevens birthday is in April. We are sorry the Gary Preston family is moving to the Provo area soon. They lived in Blanding for some time be- fore moving to Montezuma Creek. Mr. Preston has been serving in our state health sanitation division since being here, and Mrs. Preston has been teaching school in tezuma Creek. We wish the zoning should stay at the county and local level Elected officials are closer to the people and know their problems. It would be detramental to any small community if they couldnt make decisions on a local level, if the planning and decisions were done by someone who does not live in the community. Many selfless individuals have rallied to this work.
