I had my herd in a small pasture, soon to be eaten out, so I hurried away to find the strange horse ranch in the anomalous jungle. I found the fresh track of a horse, evidently carrying a rider. I can not venture here on the long train of thrilling particulars to which this event led. Posey was glad to have a cash job for a few days and he came promptly with two horses, his bed blankets and some fresh venison. I could not have found a more willing and capable helper. He knew how to fry meat, to bake bread, to unpack at night, find our horses early in the morning, and how to replace the packs and move the herd.
