The ladies entertained their husbands with a covered dish dinner. After the delicious dinner, each person was asked to give a short history of himself. The majority were bom in Utah, others from Mexico, New Mexico, Ohio, Virginia, and Oklahoma. There was a birthday or two given, but seems no one mentioned the year they were bom. Recently, there have been numerous articles on San Juan County in several national magazines, including Dodge magazine, National Geographic, Chevy magazine, Desert magazine, West ern Gateways and Sunset. The Utah Travel Council, a division of the Department of Development Service, is charged with the primary responsibility of promoting and publicizing Utah's scenic, recreational and highway attractions. Embraced in this general assignment are a myriad of special programs designed to compete with other states in attracting tourism, which today is one of the top industries in the if not the world. country During the past year the Utah Travel Council has placed special emphasis in ... such areas as the regional cooperative matching funds program, new literature, travel writer tours and a totally revised advertising and publicity effort. Mr. Jorgensen showed a film, "Utah's River Wilderness", about running the rugged Utah river rapids, which was written and produced by the Travel Council. It was entered recently in a film festival, sponsored by the Public Relations Society of America and won first place in the sports, hobby and recreation catagory in which 48 other films were entered. The San Juan Travel Council office in Monticello has a copy of this film and it will be available for the next 10 days to be shown before interested groups. Some 7. 8 million motor vehicle visitors came to Utah and spent over $126 million during the fiscal year 1970-7- 1. Mr. Jorgensen was the featured speaker at the dinner hosted by the Blanding and Monticello Chambers of Commerce held at the Blanding Library. Jim Black of Monticello, a member of the board of directors of the Utah Travel Council, emceed the event. The banquet was catered by Cleal and Nancy Bradford. There was a very good representation from throughout the county. Kent Tibbitts, chairman of the San Juan Travel Council, introduced the council members: Bob Sparks and Frank Shields - board members from Monticello; Vi Hickman, Brent McAllister and Jay W.
