Show Fish Imported for Area Lakes Tax Deadline July During the week of July 6, Division of Wildlife Resources fish trucks from Loa, Utah, arrived in San Juan County with fish for Blanding 3 and 4, Foy Lake and Monticello Lake so the fishing should improve somewhat. Anglers are again cautioned against littering, which in- eludes the cleaning of fish and leaving the entrails in streams and lakes. The judges of the area are taking a long look at those individuals arrested for littering as evidenced by a $200 fine for littering. On July 13, surveys were run on Monticello and Foy Lakes, and as earlier surveys have shown, these waters both produce excellent food for trout. However, the survey also showed that the chemical conditions of these waters are becoming critical for fish survival. Foy Lake was more critical than Monticello Lake, with a pH of 9. 6 (pH is a measure of the acid base of the water). Any pH above 9. 0 is considered critical for trout. This lake will be watched closely, and if the hot dry conditions continue there could possibly be some fish 12-1- 31 Employers have an Important tax deadline on July 31, 1971, says Roland V. Division of Wildlife Resources fish pathologist at Logan, Utah reports that the slime -- like growths on the fish in Monticello and Foy Lakes were due to Protozoans, (microscopic single celled animals) mainly Costia, with secondary infection of a myxobacteria, neither of which are harmful to humans. This problem should be nearing an end as the protozoan thrive at low temperatures and low pH, and both lakes have moderately high temperatures (66 F) and a high pH.
