Show Legislators hear local issues Issues of importance to San Juan County citizens were discussed Tuesday evening at the San Juan County Court House by citizens and a committee of the State Legislature, represented by Daniel S. Dennis, Roosevelt, Assistant Floor Leader of the House and C. Alfred Frost, San Juan County Representative. Primary discussion centered around schools and their problems. Larry Bailey, President of the San Juan Education Association, discussed various issues, including collective negotiations and the need for more vocational schools as contrasted with technical colleges. Devon Hurst, Manager of the San Juan Water Conservancy District proposed legislation to increase the membership in the seven man Once in a life time water board to 9 members to include broader representa- tion. ; General discussion was held on the proposed one cent gasoline tax increase which would finance a statewide system of collector roads to be a part of the County Road System. A proposal to eliminate Daylight Saving Time was also discussed. Representative Frost asked the group to express itself on what it thought the most honest tax was and where it wanted an increase. Some members of the group favored pro perty tax, others sales tax. A majority favored keeping the voting age at 21 when the question was raised whether the voting age should be lowered.
