San Juan Record Monticello, Utah Dear Friends: (Ed Note: The following It a Statement on Fore it roads by Monticello District forest Banger LeCrand Chon. ) Ranger Olson reports on Forest Roads. Fores Roads are a constant problem. Steep grades combined with more than average precipitation increase the maintenance needs and problems. The Forest Service Is not a road building or road maintaining Agency but at timet we must do something about it. Frequently we contract needed road work out or enter into cooperative agreement with the county. Many timet our roads are neglected and not maintained when there it sufficient moisture to make road grading effective. San Juan Lumber Company Auto View maintain their haul roads. Mining concerns often main- thousands over the years on these roads but lack the legal authority to take them over or draw class B funds from the state. The legal authority is being set up to correct this situation. So forest roads may be a lit- tle rough but travel will be possible. Both the Forest Service and San Juan County road department are doing what they can. The Interest rate on U. S. Saw ings Bonds has been increased to 4. 15 percent. The maturity period of Series E Bonds under the new terms is now only seven years.
