He returned home in May, 1963 after fulfilling a mission in the Southern States Mission and planned to be married in July to Carol Spires of Columbia, S.C. Monticello lead the scoring throughout the game, although the Irish were only one point behind, 10-- at the end of the first period. By halftime, however, the Buckaroos had built lead and up a sizable failed to relinquish any of it during the remainder of the game. Howard Nielson led the Monticello scoring with 20 points followed closely by his teammate Clyn Young with 17 points. Monticellos Junior Varsity fought to a close one but finally lost by one point, 4342, in the closing minutes of the game. Eddie Allred led the JV scoring with 16 points.
