On Friday, Nov. 22, 1963, the President of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. In a matter of hours the man accused of the henious crime Uwas. apprehended but in a matter of only a few m6re hours this accused assassin was himself murdered-f-- ii the basement of the Dallas Police Station! The assassination of the President was an incredible event but one which could be blamed on no one. The murder, before millions of televiewers eyes, of the accused assassin in the Dallas Police Station was another matter. It could, and should, have been prevented. If this man was indeed the assassin of the President, he should have been tried by the courts of the land and given the sentence prescribed by law. Newsmen have said that , these events will go down in our history, but is it a historic note of which we can be proud? We pride ourselves on being a nation of people dedicated to the principles of law and order and justice for all. Yet in a matter of a few hours, our head of state is murdered and the person accused of this crime is himself murdered. What law, what order, what justice is found in these crimes? Surely, from this tragic lesson, Americans everywhere will be brought to realize that our democratic system must be bolstered and strengthened and practiced by each and every individual and guarded with .our very lives if we are to see it survive. That the acts of one or two individuals could destroy a system of government and a way of life for millions is absurd, but that two individuals with arms and murderous intent have disrupted such populace is now fact. MONTEZUMA CREEK By Pat Davis and foremost in the news was the reaction people on hearing the tragic news that occurred last Friday. Give thanks that we are fortunate enough and are blessed with the Grace of God to bounce back from tragedy, continue as a combined nation through a succession of orderly command and prove once again that the precepts of our founding fathers were, and are, still as effective today as when they were drawn into the charters governing this nation. Most of what could be said, and many things that should have been left unsaid, concerning the tragedy that befell this nation have already been televised, printed or by voice transmitted to the millions of people throughout the country and the world.
