Weston, Salt Lake City author and publisher, announced this week that he would be a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the U. S. Senate post now held by Wallace F. Bennett, Republican, whose second term expires at the end of this year. Aged 50, Weston resides at 769 South West Temple street in Salt Lake with his wife and two daughters. Weston is the father of nine children and is the author of the book These Amazing Mormons. Forest Service for withdrawal of 2,840 acres in the Man,ti-LaSNational Forest from prospecting and mining was filed Monday with the U. S. Bureau of Land Management. According to R, D. Nielson, Utah state director for BLM, persons desiring to comment on or object to the proposed withdrawal have 30 days in which to notify him in writing. If any objections are filed and they warrant a public hearing, one will be scheduled, Mr. Nielson added. John Vandy scored his third win of the season by beating out L. M. Thomas Furioso in a time of 28.3 seconds, three-tenth- s of a second off the track record set by Be Bold in 1953. John Vandy was ridden by jockey Bud Woods. CLASSIFIED S PEGGY. 12-1- 3 R16HT ar federal prison term by the U.S. District Court in Denver last Friday after being found guilty of misapplication of $128,000 in bank funds. Tanner, a bean warehouseman, and Bruce M. Brandt, former cashier of the Dove Creek State Bank, were both found guilty of the charges but Brandt was placed on probation. Brandt and Tanner were Indicted by a federal grand jury last year on six counts of misapplication of some $208,000 in bank funds stemming from the use of duplicate bean warehouse receipts used .to secure loans. A jury. convicted the pair on three counts on ' Nov. 10. Tanner is free on $5,000 bond and Brandt on $1,000 bond, pending appeal of the conviction. Both have 10 days in which to appeal. Both men are also under indictment In Dolores County for confidence game, false pretenses and conspiracy involving $240,000 in funds and pinto beans. These cases have not yet been trldl.
