A bill that would authorize a National Parkway across San Juan County and Southern Utah has been introduced in Washing-to- n by Utahs Sen. Wallace F. Bennett. The proposed parkway would be a modem highway, approximately 180 miles long, connecting the Monuments National with the Glen Canyon Recreation area and National Parks in Southwestern Utah. In introducing the bill, Sen. le Bennett pointed out that there are at least four feasible routes across the southern portion of the state that would serve as a parkway route. All would require bridging the Colorado River. He added, however, at present there, is no adequate highway between southeastern and southwestern sections of the state. Travelers between the two states must make either a 400 mile trip north through Salina and Price or a 375 mile trip south through Tuba City and across the Navajo Indian reservation. The senator said that in addition to providing a scenic and shorter route across the state, the 1959 CHEV.
