Show Volume 43 lOtf Monticello, San Juan County, Utah per copy DESCENDANTS City Acquires Tract of Land Friday, June 26, 1959 . THE OF ALLAN FROSTS Number 21 CONVENE S By HOMER CHANDLER City Manager The City of Monticello has just purchased some 30 acres of property below the hospital and in the area of the sewage disposal. This property, which belonged to Clarence Black, was needed to finish the development of the sewage plant and to give the city additional storage space for equipment, light poles and other materials being used in the development of the utility system. A request has been made by the golfing association that the city lease what property that is not designated to be used for the sewage plant development to the association for the purpose of developing a golf course that will be open to the public. The proposition offered by the golfing association states that all expense involved in the building of the course will be handled by the golfers and that the city will not be asked to spend money from the city treasury for this purpose. As of now, no action has been taken by the city council concerning this request. As one onlooker pointed out, the city fire engine has made three runs (or maybe we should say "walks) within a relatively short time to blazes far beyond the city limits, in fact as far away as 15 miles. The futility of the effort in each case was underscored when after a few spurts of water, the tank ran dry and fire fighters could only stand around and watch the flames finish the job. It has been suggested that the county chip in to help buy new fire fighting equipment since it is so frequently needed to combat fires outside the Monticello city boundaries. Local volunteers could, and undoubtedly would, serve in the dual role of city and county firemen, so no personnel problem would present itself. There is nothing unique about this situation, and it has been satisfactorily resolved in other areas Mont Merc 4, (No line score) (continued on page four) by Death Eastland Merge Branches - New Post Office Watching the Effective There Dove Creek and nine-mont- Bids Drilling in Utah one-ha- J ft. 41 "jpr; Levy Becomes are now 30 rotary oil .drilling rigs active in Utah, ae-- i cording to a recent count, Wyoming has 93, Colorado 56, North Dakota 39, Nebraska 30, The county commissioners this Montana 21 Arizona 3, South DaBy MRS.
