Show news BBLAMMMp By Albert and Gladys Lyman Trailer Burns The fire alarm howled long and ominously between ten and eleven Monday evening, and the engine shrieked in response as it raced to the west side of town where a flame was raging in a trailer belonging to the Snider family, back of the West Side Market. It is related that the trailer is pretty much ruined. En route to Conference Edward (Ted) A. Jones, now of Odessa Texas, is here with his wife and two children to visit several days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alma Jones, on his way to a Conference in Salt Lake. New Welfare Project Sunday morning, the 29th, the Third Ward Priesthood meeting voted unanimously to buy a welfare farm three miles north of town for $15,000. The farm is machinfarily well equipped withstock and ery, and will have live an orchard. A home will probably . be built for a resident manager, and considering how other farms, brought and operated by different priesthood quorums have prospered, this should be a successful undertaking. The L D S Church requires of each ward to have a welfare project, preferably a farm, or other productive enterprise on which its people can work. Weekend FRIDAY, APRIL 3, 1959 THE SAN JUAN RECORD PAGE FOUR at Home I thirty cars, jeeps and trucks that went west and southwest; some of them to Bluff and by wav of Navajo Trail across the Comb to the big dugway and on to Muley Point; others by the Shirt Tad Comer road across on into Arch Canyon. The main part of the company ate lunch on the brow of the lofty point, overlooking Monument Valley, and the Greater Goose Necks of the San Juan, four or five miles west of the Goose Necks so often" visited by The view from the Point is breath-takinnothing else like is anywhere else in the sight-seer- s. g, world. Lynn Lyman led three other on to the southwest a'ong the high rim to see what is in sight from points two or three miles farther on, and on their return trip they undertook to follow the Old Morman Trail by the way of The Twist and down the Comb. But it was late in the day, and among the maze of roads in the wide stretch of cedars, they lost their way and had to return by way of the big dugway and Navajo Trail, reaching Blanding at ten in the evening. Among the visitors to the Point was Marge Lyman, still unable to walk, and riding now over the place on the dugway where she met with her accident and suffered a broken leg on Thanksgiving Day. Most of the picnickers returned bv way of the upper crossing of the Comb, getting on to oiled road again on the west side of Cottonwood, from which point with bridges and improved grades, it is smooth going to Blanding. It is fil car measured miles from Blanding by way of Arch Canyon to Muley Point; 33 miles to the junction at the foot of Elk Mountain. 22 miles, to where the road turns jeep-loa- Jimmy Perkins, son of Kistie Perkins, was home from school on a visit over the weekend. To Make Montana Home The two Stevens brothers, Dane and Lonnie, went back Friday to the ranch of their father, Dan Stevens in Montana, where it is reported they expect to stay and help with the operations of the place, and later to have their families join them. It is reported they have sold one home to Burdette off Shumway. Basketball Suspense One of our women who went with the big caravan to Provo for that basketball tournament, says she never wants to do such a thing again; the suspense of it tends to bring on heart disease. She says that to g watch in suspense while the teams race on and on, neck and neck, and then come out 49 to 50 in favor of the other team, is just simply too much to endure with physical safety for more than about once. Will Serve Indians The Blanding Third Ward is to organize a branch in the north end of town, the geographical center of which will be the Indian Chapel. To begin with it will be officered by people of the ward, and will aim to give, for the benefit of the Indians, the same kind of activity and religious service program as is carried on in the main ward. Our Indian missionaries hail this as quite a step forward. Easter Trek One Sunday morning, services in the different wards and churches, were characterized by appropriate Easter programs, but the big celebration came off Saturday with of people speeding away in different directions, to eat picnic and feast on the scenery in the quiet of the hills and gulcli-eWe were along with twenty to nerve-splittin- car-loa- s. ff ff Avoid Risk! j-- j girl operator looked familiarly at the groom and said, Hello, Darling! Now Recuperating Mrs. Donald (Wanda Hunt) Black, underwent an operation for goiter in the San J .an Hospital. She was found to have also a cyst which had to be removed, making it quite a serious matter, but she is on the highway to recovery. The Good New Days Saying nothing about whether or not fifteen to twenty dollars a day for a carpenter is too mich, we are reminded as we watch these modem crews with their improved methods and electric machinery put in a few days the kind of a house which formerly required a month, that it would not be a snap exactly, to hire the carpenter with his ane tiquated methods, even at the scale. wage Flying Trip Our friend, J. No one was hurt, but much inconvenienced for a while. Collision Demolishes Cars Lyman Bayles wa3 in a car collision three miles east of Sodier Summit on the weekend. He was in a snow storm, traveling west behind a big truck and ,when he attempted to pass it, he saw in the blinding storm a car coming with its lights in full glare, and plenty of room to make the pass without hitting it, but another car, without lights, was between him and that car with the lights. When he saw it and slammed on his brakes, he slid head on into the oncoming car, suffering scratches and bruises and demolishing both cars, the two in the other car were hurt; no one is held officially to blame. Damage High, Minor Injuries Two cars collided in the street Sunday in the north end of Banding, doing much damage to the oars but inflicting only minor injuries to the passengers. Mr3.
