Show The Old Settler R. By Albert t V"' ' 1 . ! My dear San Juaners: Id sure like to know how dogs where they came got to be from, and who made 'em, said Jimmy as he looked lovingly at his bright pup, Towser. Why nobody made em, Tom exploded, they jest come, theyre dogs because they had to be dogs; couldnt be nothin else. Now look at them eyes, and them ears, and them legs; I dont believe he jest come. Why look he thinks. at him Jimmy had got to thinking. Once in a while grown men and women get to thinking, but not very often. Most of them content themselves with Tommys version of it: Everything is that way because couldnt possibly it is that way be any other way. People who think begin tracing the big phenomena from one horizon to another, and the farther they go, the more gripping and wonderful they' find the world to be. They look at the little seed almost too small to be seen with the naked hard-coate- d eye, yet in that little speck is hidden away all the ways and tendencies of that little seeds ancestors for thousands of years past. It can lie there in the cold ground for years and years waiting for a favorable time to grow, then and it reaches down with its tiny roots and up with little blades, to suck nourishment out of the soil and out of the air, and be the very kind of plant that its parents have been; the same kind of blossoms, the same smell, Attention URANIUM ORE PRODUCERS We will verify your ore Shipment data at . . . How can anybody with power to think pass such a wondrous thing by and think nothing? And it is said that even the hard meteors, of iron and nickel that have been wandering millions of years in space bring with them, when they come to this iiarth, certain kinds of sports which have been waiting all that long, long time for a chance to become the kind growing thing that their ancestors were in some other world, too l ing ago to grap the distance in point of time. Life! O what is life! The wondrous invisible that wraps itself with and molds these tangible elements into its own shape? We are impelled to look for the purpose and source of human beings, and when we have considered the breath-takin- g wonders of our tiny how they are bodies, embryonic framed visibly by invisible hands, hands with super-artisti- c skill, and unfailing methods of doing the same thing in the same way and in the same number of days and hours in providing corporeal bodies for countless multitudes, we stand aghast. We simply must know more about it.; we must have a new base for conclusions. Through the microscope I see with my own eyes a fantastic world of life which I could not believe if it were not there positively before me. An infinite variety of creatures, bringing into being others of their kind. The unseen entities of life make their existence seen and known by the way they pick up the colloidal element of the water, and mold it into their primeval form. I can not pacify my conscious being by dismissing the wonders of earth and heaven by thinking all this is so, because it is so. I look at my watch; I can not think of it as a thing of chance; it had a designer; a creator; it was made with great skill to serve a definite purpose. I have not seen its designers, nor its creators, but I know they were. 0 what a cheap and simple thing that watch as compared with creation, endless and infinite. If it would be crazy to conclude that my watch just came of itself, by no special skill, from no iintelligent designer, and for no definite purpose, then what would it be to conclude, or to be satisfied with the belief that the flowers, the trees, the birds and animals, and man himself, just came because they had to be for no reason and for no specific pur- LIMIT RESERVE 2 MODERN TEMPIUTE i EQPT. t ALUS m Jn O CHALMERS TxJ 111 BALL MILLS I.
