At this meeting, besides Mr. Bement, a stockholder and Frank Kelsey, one of the original incorporators for the proposed airline, were two Moab residents and several Monticello residents. At the meeting much discussion centered around the implication that a scheduled flight service could prove detrimental to the charter companies. It was pointed out that this is not the general rule inasmuch as additional business, more often than not, creates a greater demand for charter service. Also the service to many thousands of people suffering from lack of adequate transportation facilities, was of far greater importance than the unsubstantiated belief that it could prove injurious to any group. The position of Mr. Bement was fully discussed in relation to the article published in this newspaper, and the facts, including Mr. Bements quest of the Attorney Generals office in regards to his holding stock in the corporation without officiating in the company as a director, were presented. Mr. Bement again reiterated his position as a stockholder zealously interested in seeing this service established for residents of Southeastern Utah. He also stated that under advisement of the Attorney Generals office he could hold stock in the corporation, but could not be a director. At this point the Record publicly apologized for the erroneous information and to all intents and purposes believed the discussion honorably, if not finally, settled as far as this newspaper was concerned. Tuesday, August 9th, members of the statehouse and the press in Salt Lake City were sent underscored clippings of the aforementioned article with malicious tidbits penciled in the margin suggesting the state department needed a housecleaning because of the Aeronautic Directors interest in aeronautics and using the misinformation as a basis for creating an investigation. To all intents and purposes it would seem that someone with an axe to grind fortunately acquired sufficient copies of this newspaper to begin a slur campaign. Which, in itself, is a disgusting method but understandable under those circumstances. is that one of the persons present at the meeting admitted sending the clippings to "friends irrespective of the information released u the meeting and in what appears to be a malicious attempt to strangle the proposed scheduled flight service. If it were not the intent of the party to disrupt a scheduled flight service into this area, then the proper course would have been to personally appeal to the state commission for a hearing instead of using this underhanded means of causing confusion. The fact - rfr?9ro4r fit weft kttcfceai Decereted e wod your ewe wfef Kf kUm, wfettft. ft At least a man who affixes his signature to a letter commands an . honorable audience. In this case the articles arrived at their final destination without even the distinction of a signature. I have yet to find words to express my contempt for a person who would use this means of resolving his own convictions, and would do so having been advised, in front of witnesses, the true relation of the circumstance beforehand.
