There are substantial quantities of it in meat, eggs, preen and leafy vepetables and to a lesser extent in whole prams. The marparme spread on whole wheat bread contributes more vitamin E than that furnished by the bread. San Juan Record A trail more baffling than any followed liv expert hunters continues to puzzle nutrition research workers who follow the t luaive tracks left by vitamin E. The trail started in the laboratory as it has with other vitsumns. To date, experimental facts learned from the study of the effect of vitamin E on laboratory animals have not led to the solution of human ills. Scientists have found that on diets deficient in this vitamin, rats become sterile but human sterility fails to respond to treatment with vitamin E. l'eficieney of this vitamin also produces muscular dystrophy in certain experimental animals but the course of muscular dystrophy in humans is unaltered by massive doses of vitamin E. It may be that man, unlike certain animals, has no requirement for vitamin E. A more likely reason for the failure to demonstrate human vitamin E deficiency is that the vitamin is so widely distributed in foods that it is almost impossible for man to omit it from his diet. THE SAN JUAN RECORD Thursday. April 8, 1954. Pag 5 Executive Secretary of the Utah Safety Council. The safety council pointed out that by saving a minimum of three hvfs each month for the rest of the year, in camparison with the corresponding months for last year, Utahns will have saved 44 persons from death and achieved a 21 decrease over lh53's tecord. The White House conference on h.ghway safety called upon tr.? pyople of the United States to mince the nations traffic deaths by 40 7 this year. Thats a big order, but we here in Utah can do our part, especially if we always remember that this is no simple game of statistics we are toying with. This is a matter of life and death, Mr. Bourne declared. The safety council spokesman ttris.sed the fact that careful driving and walking depends upon Knowledge, timing, and good habits. The first is know-Kvg- e of how to operate the ve-- 1 hide, under all kinds of condi-t.on- s and weather; the second is knowledge of the traffic laws, which give us a general guide to what actions we are five to take and what rights We must surrender to other users of the roadway. The third, and all-iportant kind of knowledge con- -, eerns when we must do what we know how to so. Habitually jgood driving requires us to ex-- i pect the unexpected at any time so as to be prepared to put our at the knowledge into action proper time. Such knowledge is power, the power of life and 'death, your Lie or that of a member of your family", or a friend, or an innocent stranger.
