Beginning with the first grade and on through the seventh grade, there Is half an hour a day for writing. By the time the pupils reach the seventh grade, if they are good writers and use arm movement, they are excused from writing, and they may use this period for anything they choose. We are wondering who are going to be the first ones excused. Miss Nellie Johansen, teacher of the fourth grade, had never been absent from school during her whole school career until last Monday. As she stepped from th street car, she slipped and hurt her back. She has been absent for two days now, hut we are expecting her back again soon. vte wonder If this Isn t a prize record. Recently several trips were taken to prominent buildings to study architecture. Trips were alio taken to the dinosaur collection at the university. Compositions 'were written by each student and bound Into small leaflets. These were Illustrated with Impressionistic drawings. Some of these drawings show how a pupil would feel If he should meet a dinosaur, or how a pupil felt on seeing the Interior of a cathedral. Here are some of the compositions: ST. PAUL'S CHURCH. Erwln Henderson. The church of St. Paul is more In teresting If at first you view it as a whole, from a distance. It Is made of three types of architecture. The rector's house Is Elizabethan. The chapel is perpendicular Gothic. Even the great west window Is Gothic. The cloister la Tudor Gothic. It has beau tlful tracery on the window. The church mad of limestone from Farmington. The roof Is made of slate shingles weighing thirty tons, and la supported by ten buttresses. Stucco plaster was used to finish the AUERBACH'S BARGAIN BASEMENT NEW HATS Inside walls. The belfry is not Gothic, and it Is made or brick. The vaultings are made of rough lumber, except the buttresses.
