Politics in Utah are begining to assume proportions tliat it behoves all our young people, especially to "look a leetle oud, as tne Dulchmaii sa)s. We should post ourselves as to wbat we are; find out study, and digest the political difference of all the Great Parties of the Nation as well as our local affairs. The time is approaching when the vote of our Peoples overwhelming Part) is a thing ol the past. This is, in a great measuie the lesult of our own negligence in going to vole, and paying the attenton that is necessary to our God-givetight to vote. We do not think n eveiy legal voter in Ogden and Salt Luke were to turn out, that any ijuesliou should arise as to the political ouilook We thiuk, that in a measure, the closeness ol the coming .election is made due to negligence on the part ol the individual voters and nut .the great inllux ot Liberal" population We have political chins here that aie designed expressly tor the purpose of .educating our young men in the uuties ot American Citizen-.- . Educate .ueni m their privileges as Legal heirs of Fret ilom a privilege that is so considered by our aliens now who have lost it by their negligence in failing to get out fheir papeis when they could without any trouble, now they are debatred by the recent rulings ol the courts. 'Phis ought to be a lesson to us all as to our privileges and duties, and awaken us up to the negligence ot many of us. The fight we now have, and are engaging in, is not because ol our religious belief but on account ol the unity ol those who do atieud to their duties. This is what our opponents object to more than our social peculiarities, 1'hey tJont care how many wives we have. They dont care tor our words. What they dislike is that they dont stand any show to any of our otlices and it they are put up they are ignored, as it were, This is very humiliating and causes them more uneasiness than all .our social atlairs, hence their opposition and one that is now beginning to count more by our negligence than otherwise. Justus soon as the liberals (?) see a weak spot in any of our political strong-Jmid- , they martial their forces at that point and use such energies that would put some of our professed Peoples men to shame and would excite our sincere admiration were it not that in their enthusiasm they over-stethe bounds ol truth, right, justice and honesty. They have just lately been convicted ol many acts of dishonesty, in the way of Registering voteisetc., hence this so overshadows their labors that their commendable features are lost. In a tecent speech, their candidate lor the Marshalship, John M , Young took occasion to say that in consequence of ling ham Young having failed to pay him for services rendered Ins education had sutleied. (?) We hope they will use this means of advocating their caurse as we know fingham Young ourselves and can take such statements for what they ate worth and will have very little etlect on our young VoteiS. If any possible means can be secured whereby an interest can be awakened in our legal voters it must be done now, or it will be a very expensive experiment to allow them to get the coveted prize and we fear will be the only means ot waking up some of our lethargic lriend. n p While snow seems to be the ruling element in all directions binding the railroads and causing no end of trouble in thej way of freight, pnail, etc., we are in sunny or blisslul ignorance only by the occasional news item from our exchanges, to the contrary. Our streets are muddy and a balmy springlike overhead. Ermine has been performed at the New York Casino more than seven hundred times. The Iptesi meteor story is of one that is alleged to have fallen near Kietv, Russia, aud which, when broken open, is said to have been found full of small diamonds. That brilliant advocate of woman suffrage, Mrs. Lillie Devereux Blake, declares that under the law of this country it is a crime to be a woman, This, however, is only a woman opinion, which all men reverse without waiting to hear argument ons the question. Mr. Gladstone has an iron library which is erected close to the Parish church; there are five room in it, the principal one being fortc-on- e feet long and twenty-on- e feet wide. Twenty ton weight of books will be fitted into the cases which are being made; but it is intended for a quiet study, only & few persons will be allowed to use the libraiy at one time. is consumption is'cnunt.E?
