Every household medicine closet should wntain a bottle of spirits of turpentine, to caused not ouly medicine, but fora of other purposes, writes Maria variety Farloa in the Housewife. Here ere some of the uses to which it can be put: Old furniture that has a duiL creasy look should be rubbed with turpentine and then polished with any polish. The improvement m its appearance will well repay J ou for the trouble. White on ture can be removed by spots a furni-of wetting piece flannel with turpentine and then rubbing the spot hard. It may require several of turpentine and considerable patience and strength for the rubbing for some obstinate but the worst spot will yield in time.places, If the white spot was caused by the spilling of an alcoholio substance, it will be to efface it; but heat and some other easy make marks which are more difficultagents, to ob-- , literate. Grease on clothing can be removed by wet-- ! ting a piece of flannel with turpentine and rubbing vigorously. Perhaps it will require several applications of the spirits. Btill, the reward will come in the end. Benzine, chloroform ana ether all are good for this purpose, but turpentine, although it is likely to show an enlarged ring on a delicate fabric, does not change the colors, as alcohol and ether sometimes do, and is perfectly safe for even inexperienced people to use. For coarse fabrics, like mens clothes, it will be louud particularly valuable. It will take out wheel grease and other kinds of spots quickly and Without damaging the cloth. For medicinal purposes turpentine may be employed in many ways. For pain in the stomach, bowels, kidneys or bladder, dip a large piece of flannel in hot water, and after wringing it saturate It With turpentine. Lay this cloth on the seat of pain and cover with another piece of flannel or a towel. If the patient be in great pain, at the end of twenty minutes or half an hour wring the flannel from hot water and satui j it wuh turpentine. It is a rare thing that more than the second application has to be made. In severe cases it is better to apply the tur-- 1 pentiue with lard rather than hot water. Mix the turpentine m the proportion of a tablespoonful to an equal quantity of lard and spread on the flannel. This preparation c.i be kept on for in urs withthe patient, whereas that out disturb,., made with but w .iter will, as a rule, have to be removed m a an hour or less time. Where blo- -i i. uf t,.e bowels occurs from theaccur ?., ten drops of tur- ,i jngar or a teaspoonful pentiii 1 . , taken internally of granv.li three dose- - i t t,.i r hours will afford relief.
