We call the attention of the Citv and County officials to the fact that she.-- herds are befuul-in- g our water. One gentleman inf rmed us that he walked a short distance up the canyon on Sunday Iat and in taking a drink fiom one of the little streams flowing into the main creek found it so impregnated with sheep tilth that he could not drink it. The News takes vs to task about our assertion that a man seemed to prefer standing on his head in the waters of the Salt Lake rather than his feet. Now we poke from actual experience, biH perhaps the re son the water of the lake dont act the same way with the News man that it does with others is on account of the location of his heavy brains balancing him in the opposite direction. Editor Seiitiii el: Abmit of a few lines in your columns in regard to pacing City licenses for city revenui uu ler pretense of protecting trade. Would like to ask our city fathers wliv they do not. do it? A machine agent of almost any sort can canvass the city and make sales, deliver and coll 'Ct or whatever he choses to do, wi hout ever paving a cent to our city treasury and if a man that lives here undertakes to sell anythiiur, even an old wornout waeon, lie would be fined. Your correspondent knows of a case where a m in. a citizen, sold and Was a pair of double-tree- s fined $20.00 and cost for same. L 't the law be equal to all. even if the agent above referred to is 8 dling for the hou-- e of the Utah Agricultural and Manufacturing Co., so say we all. A Subscriber, The above is a very just appeal and if the writer or any other party injured will bring a case of tlie kind mentioned before the Honorable Cite Fathers ot Ephraim, we hope and believe they will give the licensed dealer all the lights they guarantee to him Ed. On Mondiy the High Piiest Quorum of Ml Pleismt had an excursion to the Minti Temple under i lie direction of President Jae obChr.stenseiMif tlieQ lorum. 27 persons par-ti- c There was in the excursion, inpatfd cluding nearly tlie 'en'ire Quo-- i um, tlioir families and a number of friends. Tnere were 25 vehicles wagons and c.uriages- - used to convey the pary to Manti; and from the time they started from home untd their arrival at the Te eple they were formed in regular ord r. the bishops and presi lents leading, tlie te-- t of the company following according to their ecclesiastical order. h Bishops Madson and were of tne company and Bishop Seel, y "was prevented from participating on account of sickness. f Many old people were in the party, some of whom had not been out of the city hunts of Mt. Pleasant for 20 years. There were widows ot deceased High Priests, the old and infirm every body at all connected with that quorum were encouraged to One old gentleman come. Fatlier Ilaus Olsen and his wife, both of whom were 85 yeais old, were of the pasty; Father Andrew Sign. .11 79 years old, who is lame and who had to be helped into the Temple, was also along' Many of the party bud never seen a Temple and some would probably nver have seen one only for the excursion. The pirty met President Beal on the road who expressed himself as well pleased, and said that he would have made one of the party hial h known beforehand. When Vbey arrived at Epinaini they stopped in front of President Petei sons res'dence and the President came out and spoke to them, lie said if it was not for a slight injury which he had received the day before and which cau-e- d him considerable pain when in his carriage, he would make one of the party. While theie mother Peterson passed puie cold Witter to many of the aged sisters, which was highly appreciated. The partv arrived at the Temple at 12:30 and were iimne put uu ier the care of El ter W. Snow and J. J. Taylor, by Superintendent Folsom who done all in his power to maae them feel h ippy an to whom the leaders of the party return their thanks. The gentlemen appointed for that took the entire 127 purpo-- e through the Temple, showing them all thitwas of inle est. Every body was well pleased with the trip before they had got tlnough the building, and were highly elated at t ie beautiful structure and the elaborate and handsome finishings of the interior and were made happy and thought timt indeed it was good to be a saint.' After they had got through looking at the Temple about one half of the party returned homo and the rest remained with and fiiends in Manti on Tuesday took a flying visit to Funks Lake, where they spent a short time indulging in a boat ride which was a ne.v thing fot a nUmber of them. The Untire affair passed off pleasantly and every b idy seemed well pleased, and we will say right here that a number of such excursions from the yariou towns would be a good thing and would give those who have liberally donated to the Temple fund an opportunity to see and realize what a grand' work h id been and was being done with their means.
