Show AIRPORT NEWS The past was an event- week-en- d ful one at the airport. Three acci- dents took place and the sequence erf actual events, as near as can be determined at this writing are as follows: ! 5,5 1 An Independent Newsoape Devoted To The interests Of The People Volume 19 Number , Saturday afternoon was spent hopping passengers and outside of the runway being a little muddy, everything went normal until 5 p. m. Allan Chase, piloting the new Aeronea, took off with a passenger and shortly after lifting the plane into the air heard the engine start sputtering. Chase made a turn to the left and started to maneuver the plane into a position to either land on the runway or a small field adjacent to it. However, the engine quit entirely and due to insufficient altitude, the plane was unable to clear the fence bor-- . ' dering the field Chase was trying to make. The right wing broke a fence post and. spun the plane 180 degrees to direction of travel. Although extensive damage was done to the plane in the forced landing, neither pilot nor passenger, were in . jured. Would like to state at this time that only the excellent judgment and piloting' of the aircraft by Chase, prevented either a fatal or serious injury. The years of army experience behind Chase stood him in good stead. The Aeronea being brand new had only a" total of 60 hours on both ship and engine. The plane was flown foui; hours and five minutes prior to the forced landing, and the engine functioned perfectly up to that time. A line inspection, was made on the ship and the sediment that morning .bulb drained and cleaned. The power plant failure Was alwoliue, v which is very unusual as most engines give ample warning cutting out and then very seldom Randolph, Utah 1 Friday Feb. pt Rich Coun tv and Lower Bear River Valley $1.50 Per Year Uj 1946 ri Randolph Home Burns to the Ground Funeral Services for c Uer Lynn Wilson wmomamm m mm sb and Mrs. Alton Jackson was destroyed by fire' last Saturday morning.
