Hatch Walter Marshall of Kandolph, were members of the Ba ribs , basketball team from the Utah State Agricultur al College which defeated the Barbs from the University of Utah last week at Salt Lake City. The Barbs won the intramural basketball contest held during the winter quarter at the College. They have now engaged return games with the Barbs from the U. of U. to be played at , Logan. The Barbs organization consists of students Who do not belong to frat ernities or sororities. That the Barbs are rapidly gaining student .popularity at the College is shown by the out standing success of their athletic teams in the intramural athletic program. Mr. Hatch and Mr. Marshall are both sophomores registered in the School of Agriculture with a major in animal husbandry. , i f NORTH RICH GOSSIP (Dishin the Dirt) i 4 v A short and concise program was given under the auspices of the Soph. Glass officers. Mr. Lemon gave the opening prayer, as usual. We think lies getting good. Freshmen girls sang a chorus. We find that Barbara Erickson is a very remarkable girl; she is able to giggle, flirt with How ard and sing all at the some time. Lynne Lamiborn (the Belle-- y of Lake town) gave a reading. Mary played a piano solo. Ruth Hodges read an on Hus-- ' interesting little''-- ditty bands from experience. Then came ' a chorus by Edna and Co., dedicated to what Paul. Elaine, --who thinks she is sophisticated, recited. Mr. Robinson did his duty by giving us a long boring talk. Mr. Lemon read a few excerpts from Whiz Bang. A little epistle was rendered by Miss Weston and last came a few suppos- vied to be funny remarks by Barbara Weston. We hear Maurine things shes tough Is she hot stuff? They seem to be trying to locate themselves in an Intense fog storm without a compass. Some blame Hoover ; others blame a Democratic incumHouse; while the bents and holdovers blame the lame duck members. And while they sit back there twaddling away per day of the peoples money $120,000.00 is the daily cost of congress while convened economic conditions steadly keep sinking deeper into the quagmire of hopelessness. Here are two of the conflicting problems they are grappling with : Increase of farm commodity prices; decrease in industrial unemployment The way they are attacking them is: Tax the consumer on aU farm commodities he buys and give the money raised to the farmer, as a premimum to bribe him into producing less thus caring for the farmer; while they are appropriating huge sums of federal money to go to the basic industries for the purpose, of facilitating more production in industry a bribe of course, to industry in lieu of their putting more men hack to work thus caring for the unemployed. But the joker in the program is: If the farmers curtail production, it means a corresponding number of farm laborers losing their jobs if the farners reduce 25 per cent of their production, it cuts 5,000,000 farmers (families included) out of gainful em ployment or equivalent in time ; while, if industry puts 5,000,000 unemployed men back to work, it means a tremendous surplus of manufactured goods on hand which would mere ly reverse conditions with the farmer. The name Thoroughbred applies to a definite breed of light horses and to this one breed only. Within this breed we have purebred and Thoroughbred horses grade Thoroughbred horses. There are pure bred cattle, sheep, swine, etc., but never Thoroughbred cattle sheep and swine. Therefore it should be used only in referring to this one particular breed of horses.
