The combination sprav was suggested by 1 C. Stone, a Denver distributor of agricultural chemicals, and is made exclusively by Steel and Iron Woiks, Englewood, Colorado Its immediate application is intended for use this spring in spray ing weed preventer application on sugar beet rows during planting Tests made during the past year at the experiment station of the Great Wesern Sugar Co , Longmont, Colorado, under the supervision of Dr. R. T Nelson and Ralph Wood, resulted in improvements in design, so that production is already underway. Behind the invention of this useful farm implement is the new chemical weed preventer. a compound Crag, DCU-73developed specifically for kill, ing grassy weeds before emergence in sugar geet rows. For five ears after the laboratories of Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Co. had developed the compound, known as dichloral urea, independent tests were made by experiment stations. When it became clear last year that DCU would be available to growers E. C. Stone, who distributes Crag chemicals, occupied himself with the problem of developing an efficient means of applying the weed race In it n I , i , j (l,i lim'i ., M V .1 - Ir.di 111 l) I 'M Lt iU f nlll ti lll! s to I1 i i Ji tnu.i to ilit jmmu) . i in it. Do you wonder what all these people see as they go through town? You can find out by this test. Simply stand in front of your yard and look; at it; look at the streets in town. Often we look at familiar things without seeing them. Sometimes a tour around . town with a stranger helps us to see the things as they really are. Because of the many homes clustered together as we find them in the Mormon planned communities, where the business district is small, the homes become the most important thing to see. The pub. lie park and the school grounds also attract attention and have things to tell about the people who live there. The other day I rode Cedar1 There are no finer tires in the world on cant help but be attract- City with Mary Bastow. I saw, with her, some beautifully landscaped yards, and I also saw some that were e and and some that just werent landscaped at all. Perhaps the people who do not plant any shrubs or flowers about their homes are like the man who said, Why plant that stuff, you cant eat it. Many people know that to feast the eye on the beauties of nature, such as a well landscaped yard, is refining to the soul and is more than a full belly. Thora Barton suggests that we plant dwarf fruit trees, then we can have beauty and something to eat as well. Last month I visited in the over-don- over-grow- n, little town of St. David, Ariz. where I taught school 25 years ago. I went back there especially to see a certain tree which I planted and also to see the school yard there, where Mr. Mortensen Continued to Page 4 and I r ( i |
