We were under the impression that Parowan City had a (ouple of tractors and a couple of trucks. Doesn't seem like they do a lot of gcxxl unless they are used. This is just a guess, however. While we're talking about tourist trade; sure seems like something has happened within the past month. You can get gas tor your car practically all night now. Roy Mathis at the vj.evron Station is open at 3 a.m., Scott L. Orton is ojxn by 5 a.m. and still open at 11. Andy Burton, Ken Jensen, ham Whitney and Eldon Smith are also keeping early and lute hours. The two cafes in town are "right on the ball" ux). Toe Parowan is open from 5 a.m. till 1 a.m., Jim Barton at Taylors is open from 6 until 10. t ,ieae things are helping the town out a lot and the operators snould have a pat on the back. By jcople being able to get gasoline and eat; the motels are doing a better business. Nowr if we get our big road signs up so people know we're here, looks hke we might get "back in business". Been i fusing the fire ruck to the last two or three I ires and two or three things weve noticed have struck us as worthy of comment. First, even though the fire chief says there should be improvement in the speed with which the volunteers get into action, two minutes time meant the lietween saving Earl Bunns house and having it burned down. The fire at Sam Abbotts, in another five minutes, could have cleaned out the whole neighborhood if the dtr.f'nunt hadn't been right there. Marell Bayles, who was ... .... . d; had it out of the fire house and the siren before the large siren on the garage had quit blowing. going Looked to us like this w'as pretry gcxxl time. Second; too many people are like us, they like to chase the truck. This in itself isnt bad, and sometimes they can be of want to get too close with their cars. At Bunns the other night, if the truck had had to get to a fire plug for more help to the firemen, but the bad feature of' it is that they water than it carried, it couldn't possibly have made it without running over a dozen cars. The place to park is a block or two away from the fire. Give the firemen a chance to work and the truck a place to manuver. Third; to a lot of people the siren on the truck doesnt mean a thing. Its just a noise that tells them something is happening. When the siren blows, whether its a fire truck, an ambulance or a police car, a motorist is supposed to get out of the way and stop. The habit of continuing like nothing had happened could very easily cause a terrible accident with a loss of life and the loss of someone's home because the truck couldnt get there. We know most people mean well but sometimes they get just a little too eager and forget the consequenscs. Were sure the fire department would appreciate just a little more coin the way was; it doesnt look like our city law enforcement ' operation. The final thing that occured to us while we got officers have any place on the fire department. Not because they are not capable either, but because police action in regulating traffic and keeping crouds away from the fire fighters while they are tryng to work seems to be a mighty import- - rf 1 i Id .ft ar I t. -:l. .ch 'K! : .
