The first place w inner Danny Monaghan, second place was Colton Patton, and third place went to Sarah Sharp. There have been up t o 20 contestants coining weekly to duel with each other,. Every five weeks there is a tournament and every person gets a certificate mid a prize. Contestants at the tournament were: Danny Monaghan, Colton Patton, Sarah mJSSZ Sharp, John Sharp, Priscilla Sharp, Jason Hall, Ixslie Recce, Roxanne Bohn, Weston Freeman, Ryan Campbell, Johnny Lindquist, Robby Christopher, Tucket Allred mid Rachel Sharp. On Dec. 4, several participants went to the regional tournament which was held at the University of Utah. Out of the more than 250 contestants, the Castle Dale Library players placed well. Danny Monaghan, Jason Hall, Leslie Reece, Johnny Lindquist and Colton Patton all placed in the top 100. Another regional tournament will be held at the U of U in February 2005, and if anyone is interested in going, the locally held duels is a good opportunity to learn new- techniques and brush up your skills. The regional tournaments w ill help you progress to the national level. Beginning Jan 4, 2005, the local duels will take place a the Emery County Recreation building and will be held Mondays from 3:30-5:3- 0 P.M. Advanced rules will be played. Before each game there is a preparation time, which is an opportunity to learn about deck construction, what combinations work best, and get questions answered about the game. Cards are also traded, as long as parental permission is given. Michele McElvanev is the games master, and oversees the players, answers questions that come up during the duels, and settles disputes. Her job is to keep things as fair as possible. People of all age.s are encouraged to come and participate. All different skill levels are played. Decks are available to play with if needed. There is no cost involved to participate in the local duels, and newcomers of all ages are welcome. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
