Show Emery County Progress Castle Dale, Utah Tuesday December 7, 2004 7 A Students of the Week Green River High School Canyon View Junior High San Rafael Junior High Rene Escalante Rene Escalante is the 15 year old son of Alicia and Ernesto Escalante of Green River. He has a 3.2 grade point average and participates in baseball. Renes academic interests are geography, shop, math and computers. Outside of school, he enjoys hunting, working and shopping. He plans to go to college, many a rich woman, hopefully someone he loves. Tiffany Greenburg Tiffany Colby Tiffany Greenburg is the daughter of Janice and Don Greenburg of Castle Dale. She is 15 ears old and has a 3.9 grade point average. She is in peer helpers, honor society and band. She is also the student body secretary. Tiffanys academic interests are science, English and sewing. She loes animals, reading and w riting (sometimes). She plans to go on to college and become Tiffam Colin is the daughter of Judy and Rodney Colbv of Huntington. She is 14 years old and she participates in chorus. Her academic interests are seminary, science and chorus. Outside of school. Tiffany likes watching TV and also riding her hike. She plans to graduate from high school and go on to college. aeterinarian. Castle Dale Elementary Heidi DeFriez Heidi DeFriez is the sixth grade daughter of Stephen and Jackie DeFriez. She loves the mountains and wants to be a nurse when she grow s up. Her hobbies are reading, jumping on the trampoline and playing w ith her friends. Heidi's favorite things include the books Harry Rotter 1&2, the movie Princess Diaries 2, Mrs. Jones brownies and the color lime green. At school, she likes PE and art. Damon Downing Nikki Nicholes Damon Downing is the 14 ear old son of Dannette and Jason Waite of ()rangeillo. He has a 3.95 grade point aerage and he plans to he a pro football plaer and then own his own compain Damon plas Emery High football and is in the honor society He likes geometry and PE. Outside of school, he likes sports, hunting, camping, building models and participating in outh city council. Nikki Nicholes is the 14 year old daughter of Pauhte and Roger Nicholes. She has a 4.0 grade point aerage. She participates in peer helpers, honor society, cheerleaders, she won both Hispanic Heritage Das and Red Ribbon Week poster contests. Nikkis hnorite classes are language arts and art. Her tra-elin- hobbies are scrapbooking, g, painting, drawing, church activities. designing, candy and cheerleading. She can't wait to get her braces off. She plans to go to Texas International School of Design, become a fashion designer and make a lot of money. Book Cliff Elementary Huntington Elementary Sam Kofford Daniel Johnson Robert Pitt III Sam Kofford is the son of Penny and Kraig Kofford. He is in the sixth grade and w ants to teach swordsmanship w hen he grows up. His favorite food is shrimp in lobster sauce and his favorite color is black. Sams favorite book is House of the Scorpion and his favorite movie is the Legend of the Eighth Samurai. His hobbies are reading and martial arts. At school, he likes reading, math, PE, spelling and computers. He loves all kinds of seafood. Daniel Johnson is the son of DaWaxne Johnson. His faor-ite- s III, is the 12 ear old son of Dora and Stee Pitt. Jr. ot Green Rier. He participates in math. TEC, character ed., art. music, English, history and IE. lis hnorites are math, TEG, art and RE. Robert's hobln is play ing ideo games He plans to go on to college and become a teacher and then get married, lie would like to see a day at school with no woi'k and all play. Emery Spartans boys basketball off and running By GARY ARRINGTON Sports Writer 56-4- 46-4- 0. 13-- 5 including The Falcons outscored Emery in the second quarter. The Spartans pla ed well in the third period as they outscored C anyon View Joey Bernard led the 1 7. Spartans with 1 1 points, includ- The Falcons ing two won the game as they outscored 6 in the fourth. Emery Darrin Winn led Emery w ith seven points in that quarter. Daniel Espino led the Spartans with nine steals in this game. Bernard led the scoring effort with 13 points followed by Winn with nine. Justice and Eden with five each, Espino and Brad with four each, and Blomquist and Bodie Marshall 25-1- .a fix e Marshall had four points and Winn two points and Espino, Justice, Eden, Sitterud and Blomquist each had three points. The Spartans were at the free throw line w hile Hurricane was Tra cling to Washington to play Pine View, the Spartans pla ed a bet ter game but lost to their best competition of the young season. Alter pla ing to an 8 tie in the first quarter, the Spartans then were outscored in each of the other quarters to seal the loss. Bernard paced Linen one more time with 14 points including three more Winn added 12 points in the down. 13-- 27-2- 2 24-1- 4 After three games last week, the Emery High Spartan boy's basketball team is still looking for their first win of the season. The Spartans opened the season at home with a 4 loss to Canyon View. Emery lost two more games on a southern road trip as Hurricane High defeated the Spartans 1 and then Pine View won Canyon View took the early lead of after the first quarter as the Spartans struggled to score. David Justice had a basket and a free throw and Mike Blomquist added a pair of free throws for Emery's only points. The Spartans had four steals in the quarter to play well defensively but scored no points off of those steals. Blomquist picked up three fouls in the quarter and Justice and Josh Eden two each as the Spartans found themselves in foul trouble early and had to temper the defense 54-4- at the half before bein the secoutscored ing ond half. Bernard again led the Spartan effort with 20 points, led 4-- 6 11-2- 3. 8-- loss. Emery gets ready to shoot free throws in the game against Canyon View. J;' - each of the games Linen 's opponent went to the tree throw line much more than the Spartans, in fact the Spartans tune been outscored from the line 47-- 1 6. That is H points and Emery has lost three games In a total of 31 points. Linen has three games at home this week. Grant1 s ille comes to tow n Tuesday night and Emen hosts Snow Cain on, Tooele and Park Cit in the Coal Country Classic Friday and Saturday. Emery's sophomores won 8 as Kyler Edgehouse led the scoring with 14 points, Jordan Gee added 12 and Kade Jones had 10. Emery's JVs also won Justice led the scoring with 15 points and Eden had 1 1.
