Show Emery County Progress Castle Dale, Utah Tuesday October 26, 2004 1 1 Emery County Commission Race friendships made it all worthwhile. For the past four years I have been your county commissioner. This opportunity has been a great learning experience for me. 1 have always had a great love and concern for Em- ery County and its people. By serving you through this office, my desire to continue to improve our way of life in Emery County has grown deeper and become my passion. My vision for Emery County continues to broaden. Because of the training, knowiedge and position I now hold, and the coalition of local, state and federal leaders I know and work with, there are many more opportunities for me to sen e as your Drew Sitterud I am Commissioner Drew like to tell you about myself and my concerns for running for reelection as your commissioner. I was raised in Orangeville, the son of LaVar and Donna Sitterud. I Sitterud. I would county commissioner. My reasons for running are not I do not have a personal agenda. Im just a conservative, open minded citizen who cares about the future of Emery County. However, I do have some specific things that concern me. I am concerned about the Wild and Scenic rivers. 1 feel that our water is the most important asset we have. We must do everything to protect our rights to it. We need to continue our efforts in right of ways and multiple use of our public lands. We are currently in the process of completing a resource management plan for the BLM and stalling one with the forest service. My knowledge from working through this process in the past is invaluable as we complete the plans. I will fight any increase in taxes and shifting centrally assessed taxes from the large industries to homeowners and local businesses, I feel strongly that we need to support our local busi- have two siblings, Sandra Jeffs, Castle Dale and Jay Sitterud, Highland. My family is my greatest accomplishment. I live in Ferron with my wife Julie, who is the secretary at San Rafael Junior High. We are the parents of two sons. Jesse, married to Jennifer Nielson and Thomas, engaged to Brayci Griffin. Both sons served LDS missions in Russia and are now currently in college. We have a good life here and care deeply about the future and quality of life in I h, RS-24- Emery County. Most of my education has come from the college of hard knocks. I owned and operated my own business for 22 years. I learned it takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and determination to survive the ups and downs that are simply part of business life. However, the rewards of working with and getting to know the people in the community through i j nesses and industries and continue to promote new business with em- - serving them and sharing their is decreasing, thereby placing an Gary Petty increasing tax burden and higher water and sewer rates on us. We must make economic development a priority. We can stimulate our economy by taking advantage of our natural resources, the coal industry tourism, the many wonders of our county, the mineral resources, and of the great work force we have. We need to work with the Chamber of Commerce in Green River, and the western part of our county to develop our local businesses and to increase the tourism industry'. Almost 80 percent of Emery County is public lands. We need to keep all our roads open for public use and to keep all public lands open Ive lived in Emery County for approximately 50 years. Ive worked in the mining industry for 25 years, currently Im retired from Consolidation Coal Company, Emery Mine. I own and operate a small farm and cattle operation in Emery. My wife Jolene just recently retired from being the director of the Senior Citizens Center in Ferron. During the past four months, Ive had the opportunity to attend all the city council meetings in the county and to visit with many of the residents of the county. The priorities of concerns that have been expressed to me has been economic development, water rights, keeping all roads open for public access and to develop our recreation and tourism industry. The population of Emery County for multiple use. I will work with our agriculture industry. I feel we are missing a real opportunity if we dont work with this segment of our countys economy to help it develop. We need to assist them in protectingtheir water rights and help them secure water for their grazingallotments. I served as mayor of Emery City for 12 years. I know the challenges our cities face, and I believe I can biinga better understanding of these challenges to our county government, and we need to keep these challenges in mind as we determine the future and the priorities of our county'. I want to serve Emery County as your commissioner. I feel I have the necessary' leadership qualities and experience to accomplish the aforementioned goals and priorities. I ask for your support and vote on November 2. ployment opportunities, while maintaining our local heritage and culture. This will ensure a better future for our children, and the opportunity to live in Emery County. They are our life blood and our future. I am no stranger to service. I believe I have enough experience in Democrat Gary Petty 3 ftiEH nEliHfri fifflil'ifltefo leadership, community involvement, Tyler Price (435) business and public service to prayerfully fulfill this commitment as your county commissioner for the next four years. Beingvour county commissioner full time, I am easily accessible. I would enjoy the opportunity of visiting with you and hearingyour concerns arrd ideas. My door is always open. Working together we can continue to make a difference. I hope to have your support Nov. Securitist A Farm Bureau urvlces Lite ottered through insurance Company EquITrutt Marketing West Des Moines L.
