Show 12A Emery County Progress Castle Dale, Utah Tuesday October 5, 2004 Spartans Feast as Dinos are Cooked By GARY ARRINGTON Sports Writer Spcneer Cook made it a repeat as he again turned in his best game of the season against his old high school and the Emery High Spartans won their homecoming game and defeated their rival last Friday night 36-2- 7. Cook had 148 yards rushing and scored four touchdowns on 19 carries in the game against Carbon. Cook also led a determined Spartan defensive effort as Emery allowed only 63 yards of offense by Carbon in the second half until the last drive of the ballgame. Cook scored on runs of 1,9,5 and 9 yards. After the game, coach Kevin Reynolds had this to say about Cook, Spencer moved here from Carbon County three years ago and he has always played well against them. His best game last year was in that victory. He is a determined young man. He has speed, size and also some moves. Cook is as good as we have had in a while. Also scoring in the game for the Spartans was Mike Blomquist as he caught a Joey Bernard pass for the first score of the second half. That offensive series was set up by an interception of a Dino pass by Spartan cornerback Josh Eden. Eden also had another interception in the first half and Landon Thomas and Caleb Sitterud also added interceptions in the game. Emery gave up 212 yards of offense in the first half but only 1 15 in the second as Emery al16 lowed Carbon yards in their first four possessions of the sec23-ya- rd ond half. Asked about the defensive differences between the halves, Coach Reynolds had this to say We really struggled for a half tonight, maybe it was because it was homecoming, maybe because it was Carbon. Our players were trying too hard, we just told them to settle down, do your job and we'll be alright. They did and we were. With the win, the Spartans guarantee themselves at least fourth in region for the season and a play-of- f berth. Nowr the Spartans need to work on adding to the victories for this season.
