Terra McArthur, a Huntington fifth grader, received first place in the 1 995 Young Artists' Water Education Poster Contest. Jonathan Wilske received the Green River Division of Water Resources Award in the 1995 Young Artists' Water Education Poster Contest. Dempsey Jeffs, a Castle Dale kindergarten students, received first prize in the 1995 Young Artists' Water Education Poster Local school kids are state winners in poster contest Emery County had several winners in the 11th Annual Young Artists' Water Education Poster Contest. The statewide poster contest is sponsored by the Utah Division of Water Resources and the International Office for Water Education, Utah State University. This year's contest theme was Wild Water for Wildlife. The contest is offered by the Utah Division of Water Resources to more than 10,000 classrooms, kindergarten through sixth grade, to encourage integration of water education with other state core instruction. Photos of students and their winning entries will appear in a 1996 IOWE calen- dar. Castle Dale Elementary student Timothy Lake won first place for fourth grade students. He received trophies and other prizes at the awards banquet. Winning first place for kin- dergarten students was Dempsey Jeffs of Castle Dale Elementary. He received trophies and other prizes. Terra McArthur received trophies and prizes at the Nov. 18 banquet. The Huntington Elementary student won first place for fifth grade students. Rachel Wilske of Book Cliff Elementary in Green River won first place for sixth grade students. Rachel received trophies and other prizes. Six-year-o- ld Jonathan Wilske, Book CliffElementary School in Green River, won the Division of Water Resources Award. He was honored at the Nov. 18 awards banquet. Students Contest. Si enjoy School board honors Book Cliff employees GREEN RIVER- - At a recent meeting of the Emery County School Board, two employees at Book Cliff Elementary School were honored. Named Employees of the month were Barbara Quist and Terri Parsons. According to officials at the school, Mrs. Quist makes fun and interesting for her students. She is well science ; organized and always prepared. She enriches her lessons with fun activities that sparkle interest. She also has interpersonal skills which enable her to work well with fellow faculty members. Mrs. Quist is married to Bob Quist, and they have one son and one daughter. Mrs. Parsons, who works in the school's office and lunch room, is extremely efficient and always has notes for the school children when they need them, according to school officials. She interacts with kids in a pleasant manner and none of them is fearful if they need to go to the office for any reason. She greats them each day at the lunch line and is helpful and creative with them as they state their number. Those forgetting are always assisted in a kind manner. The office areas is a peasant place, not only for students but for all visitors and parents alike. Mrs. Parsons is married to Stan Parsons, and they have three sons and one daughter. Curtis program Wes Curtis was at Green River High School Wednesday performing at an assembly attended by Bookcliff Elementary and high school students. Curtis is a historian and performs the history of Emery County and the San Rafael Swell to audisinger-songwrit- er ences. While singing such songs as "San Rafael Lady" a slide show presentation is shown which helps people visualize the beauty found in the County"Rock Art Rock" is sung while Indian rock art panels are displayed and explained. "Souls Across the Ages" is a song that details the reason for many petroglyph panels found in the area. Wes Curtis presents his program, "Songs and Stories of the San Rafael" to students in Green River. The program has been a popular hit with school kids as well as adults for the last couple of years. |
