Show 6A Emery County Progress Tuesday, April 13, 1993 Spartan track team is 2nd at preregion meet in Vernal Emery and Uintah battled it out for first and second place at a track meet at Vernal April 7. The Utes finished in first place with 105 points while Emery was second with 101 points. All of the Region 7 teams but Lehi participated in the meet. Carbon took third with 71 points, Union fourth with 41 points, and Wasatch fifth with 27 points. Coach Dean Nelson said that Emery was not a full strength at the meet, and several runners were kept out of events due to illness and injury. Emery also hosted Duchesne in a local meet on April 6. No team scores were kept, but the Spartans won 14 of 17 events. In a game played earlier this season between Carbon and Emery, the Spartans took a 12-nonconference win, but that slate has been wiped clean, and each team will be looking to gain an advantage in the league by getting the win. Thus far in region competition, Carbon has defeated Wasatch and Lehi while Emery has wins over Uintah and Union. Katie, a senior, helped her team to a win over Union by getting one hit, driving In one run and drawing a walk. She also played well defensively. Jason, a sophomore, had one hit and scored two runs In Emery's win over Union. He had one put-oIn his right field position. Ryan, a senior, finished first in the 800 at North Sevier and first in the 1600 relay. At the Pinevlew Invitational, he finished second in the 800 and sixth In the 1600. He also ran on the fifth place 1600 relay team. Angela, a Junior, helped Emery to a team win at a meet at Vernal last week by taking first in the 1600 meter with a time of 5:52.48.
