The changes will go into effect for the 1993 school year and continue through 1997. While there was an initial by the UHSAA Realignment Com- recommendation mittee to go to five classifica- tions (there are presently four), the board chose to keep the four classifications of 1A, 2A, 3 A and 4 A. However, there are to be some changes within those classifications. Emery High School, which is presently in the 3A ranks, will go back to 2A next year and will be in Region 10 with Wasatch, Union, Lehi and Carbon. If that sounds familiar, thats because that is the same configuration of the present 3A Region 7. There will be a major difference, however. Carbon and Uintah will compete in the region only for the purposes of qualifying for spots in 3A tournaments. The UHSAA has set the student enrollment figand ures for 2A at 175-99well are Uintah and Carbon over that mark at 1,150 and 9, 1,171 respectively. Since there is a wide difference in student numbers in the new 2A alignment, the UHSAA has created two divisions, totaling 25 2A teams plus the two 3A teams. We played real well as a team, and there were several good individual performances, he said. He pointed out that Spanish was held to just 109 total yards and most of that came on two trick plays. When Emery and Dixie meet Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Hansen Stadium on the Dixie College campus, it will be a matchup of undefeated teams. Ironically, that has been the situation the last couple of years when the two teams have met in preseason. This time, however, Emery is hoping to get the win. That hasnt been the case in previous meetings. |
