Grant, formerly of Orangeville and a 1985 graduate of Emery County High School, has been transferred from a one-yeassignment in Washington, D.C., where he worked security at the Pentagon for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Enroute to his new assignment, Grant attended and graduated from a Military Police Investigation School at Fort McClellan, Ala. During this ar course he was also promoted the rank of staff sergeant. Grants new assignment is a one-yeunaccompanied tour to Johnston Atoll, a to ar wide long half-mil- e cor- al island in the South Pacific. His wife and children are residing in Roy, Utah. Upon his completion of this assignment, Grant and his family will be moving to Fort Sill, Okla., to his next duty station. WINTER QUARTER 1992 COURSES PRICEEMERY AREA Classes Begin January 6, 1991 LA) Shirley Begay extend into Arizona and New Mexico where many of their American Indian traditions were first bom. The family today enjoys attending different tribal ceremonies and competitions. They travel to Arizona for special occasions and have fun with relatives. The Begays have a cattle ranch in Arizona. They also make and sell jewelry, rugs and pottery and have particiapted in the Castle Valley Pageant. The Begay children enjoy playing sports. Joieen is on the school volleyball team, and Josh loves karate and shooting the basketball. They are all very musical. Vileena plays the piano and clarinet, and she is also in the National Junior Honor Society. Mrs. Begay expressed her appreciation to the FHA for the selection as Family of the Year and said the family appreciates the kindness the FHA extended to the family as it prepared for the program. Many of the presentations by the family had to do with pow wow dances. Mrs. Begay said that dancing now days is done competitively among different tribes, in different age groups and throughout the Western United. States. Also, no part of the dance costume must come free or the done dancer is disqualified. Mr. Begay told the students that many of the dances done by Navajo Indians are based on tribal myths. He later showed his versatility as a performer by singing while Jacob and Josh performed a pow wow dance. Jacob also told the story of the Three Little Pigs." Mrs. Begay joined the younger girls in a gourd dance which originated as a tribute to the gods as an offering of thanks at harvest time. Another dance, the Eagle luaptiEPgjiiBHinramffli DECEMBER Dance, was presented by Mr. Begay who told the students that the eagle is a sacred bird to the Navajos as well as most other Indian tribes. The Begay family got the FHA officers, faculty members and other members of the audience involved in the Round Dance which is held at pow wows and social gather- ings as a means of allowing people to get acquainted. The dance is similar to a and moves in circles. The final performance included Mrs. Begay and the children who danced to the ep inspirational song, Go My written by a BYU student which Mr. Begay Son, described as a song important to the Indian people because of its encouragement to succeed. He told the students that they should continue to do their best in whatever they may be involved withTheres plenty of room at the top with the eagles, he said. Earlier, the Begays were treated to a dinner prepared by the FHA which is under the direction of Mary Ann Jorgensen. Birth Behling Dave (Tom) and C.J. Behling are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Carissa Ann. She was born Oct. 28 at 1:54 p.m. She weighed 7 pounds, 554 ounces and was 20 inches long. Carissa made her appearance at Chapman General Hospital, Orange, Calif. Welcoming her home is big sister, Megan.
