The defendant is charged with a class A misdemeanor of attempted unlawful possession of a controlled substance, cocaine; carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, and not having a valid operators license, both class B misdemeanors. A guilty plea on all counts was entered and a fine of $1,000 plus surcharges was set. The three counts were merged pursuant to a plea bargain with the fine being deducted from the $5,000 cash bail. The remainder is to be returned to the defendant as well as the .45 caliber handgun. James Grant Doyle, 48, Fresno, Calif., was bound over to district court for trial on Jan. 4.
