Show CIVIC CLUB HOSTS CENTRAL DISTRICT CONVENTION HERE INTERESTING MEETING Bingham Canyon Women' Civic Club member held their monthly meeting at the Civic Center Wednesday, Wed-nesday, March 15, 7:30 p.m., reports re-ports Mr. Sam Feraco, publicity chairman. F.fteen member were present. Mrs. James Xanthos, first vice president, greeted members at the door and Mr.' Marvin Throckmorton, Throck-morton, president, conducted the business meeting. Group tinging of "America the Beautiful" was led by Mrs. Throckmorton and accompanied accom-panied on the piano by Mrs. Xanthos. Xan-thos. Following the pledge of allegiance alleg-iance to the flag, led by Mr Throck morton, the club prayer wa given by Mrs. Richard C. Stevenson. Minutes Min-utes were read by Mrs. Verio Ken-drick. Ken-drick. Speaker of the evening was W. Lee Skanchy of Bingham High School who discussed wills and other legal-type subject of general interest. Following his discussion, Mr. Skanchy anawered questions. It was decided that a group of Civic Club member would take a program to the State Mental Hos-tital Hos-tital at Provo in the near future and that once a month on the last Thursday, two club members would visit the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Throckmorton announced that the two first place winner in the GFWC Vogue Sewing Contest Fashion Show held at the Civic Club's birthday dinner in February would be eligible to compete in the Utah Federation of Women' Club' Fashion Show being held in Ogden on Saturday, March 25, and urged that members of the Civic Club attend. First place winner in the Bingham High School group wa Yvonne Cardwell and in the Civic Club group, Mrs. M ke Zampos. Mr. Stevenson presented suggestions sug-gestions for the evening' program on Annual Gad-About Night in April. It was decided to have dinner din-ner at the Panoram afollowed by the show "Exodus". Member will be contacted for reservations by the committee: Mrs. Dean Lipsey, Mrs. Phillip Sanderson and Mrs. Stevet ton, chairman. Mr. Ros M. Gushing, general chairman of the Central District convention, gave a report on convention con-vention plan and arrangements. Following the business meeting delicious refreshments were served by the hostesses: Mrs. W. E. Gran-quist, Gran-quist, chairman; Mrs. Elwood T. Johnson and,Mrt. Richard G. Steele. The center table was covered with a lovely cutwork cloth and the centerpiece a bowl of daffodils with matching taper. Opening the convention will be a social, registration and board meeting 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. following follow-ing which there will be a general session from 9:30 to 12:1). Luncheon Lunch-eon at 12:15 at the Copperton LDS Church Auditorium will be prepared pre-pared by Copperton Ward Relief Society. Immediately following the luncheon a visit will be made to the Kennecott open pit mine at Bingham Bing-ham with transportation furnished by Bingham club members. Mrs. Xanthos, chairman of luncheon lun-cheon arrangement and reservations, reserva-tions, reports that 90 reservations have been made for the luncheon. Music at the luncheon will be played play-ed on the marimba by Michal Car-rigan Car-rigan and on the piano and organ by Dennis Nichols. Mr. Stevenson, state historian, report that the following UFWC officers will attend: Mrs. C. R. Lo-max Lo-max of Nephi, state president; Mrs. Frank Muir, Bountiful, first vice president; Mis Margaret Anderson, Ander-son, Manti, third vice president; Mrs. WendeH Winger, Springville, state director of Junior club; Mr. John D. Long, Tooele, state treasurer, trea-surer, and Mrs. Stevenson. Guest speaker at the general session ses-sion will be Alex Carr of Salt Lake City, representative of the All American Society of Utah, whose subject will be "Operation Abolition", Abo-lition", Music will be: soprano solo by Kathy Culbertson and baritone solo by Russell Ray. |
