Price Fire Chief David Barrett said the fire, which did an estimated $300,000 in damage, was reported around midnight, Friday night. But, he said, it probably had been burning for at least an hour prior to firefighters being called to the scene. Barrett said firefighters battled the blaze for about four hours before finally bringing it under control about 4 a.m. Crews remained at the scene for the rest of the night, with States the last unit finally returning to the fire station at about 11 a.m. Saturday. Barrett said he believes the blaze was started when hot ashes were put outside the furnace area and caught coal in the area on fire. He said the fire was able to get into the roof area and spread very quickly. Some firefighters initially went inside the building near the furnace room while others used ladders to get on the roof. After a short time, those on the roof found that the surface was growing hotter as the fire spread through the rafters of the building. As the fire broke through the roof, those firefighters found themselves cut off from the first ladders and summoned auction rs Three tractor units were destroyed in the blaze. Jensen has been plagued with accidents over the past year, losing two truck and trailer units to traffic accidents and one to fire during the summer, near the shop that burned Friday.
