Arrington and three of her youngsters, three members of the Tim Richards clan, two McCandless brothers Tom Humphrey and daughter Valerie, and Dorothy Johnson and daughter Keli proved that the family that runs together takes home the prizes. Races started in the cool of the morning at the city park. Event chairperson Karla Powell signed up the entrants and pinned on the numbers. She displayed the trophies and table full of donated prizes. She pinned a number on herself and joined the crowd, taken to the starting point by police escort. The eight-mil- e course began at the south Lawrence junction straight through Lawrence, following the Lawrence loop to Highway 10 and forward to the course lay park. She has run in many races., Her time of one hour1, '14 minutes, 55 seconds was second to Dan Ruminski with one hour, one minute, 49 seconds. Layne Richards clocked 1:19.29 and 1:20.58. Floyd Sheriff Guymon Forsyth clocked 20 minutes, 37 one hour, seconds. In the mens two miler, Michael McCandless was first with 13:11.28, and his brother, Donald, was 14:54.78. David second with Joyner was third at 15:19.62. Boyd Griffin was 16:18.28, and Humphrey finished at 26:36.15. In the womens two miler, Heather Richards clocked 17:51.15. Dorothy Johnson was second with 19:54.71, and Gayla Guymon was third with a time of 20:28.21. Karla Powell (her husband and five children were parked along Main Street waiting for mama to streak down the final stretch) rated 20:45.46. Carla Arrington clocked 24 : 2.02. In the girls two miler were Holly Richards, 17:46; Melanie Guymon, 18:56.31; Stephanie Guymon, 19:51.78; Melinda Arrington, 20:45.23; Melissa Keli 26:45.23; Arrington, Jennifer Johnson, 26:48.18; Justice, 26:48.17; and Valerie Humphrey finished the race but her time was not recorded. The two mile boys was run by Brink Griffin for first place with a time of 16:18.10; Mike Wilson, second, 19:14.12; Chris Justice, 23:45.81, third and Adam Arrington, 26:45.81. The first two place winners of each event were awarded trophies. Others received prizes donated by Castle Valley LaRae Majors Dance Studio, Co-o- p, Fun Fabrics, Robertas Wearhouse Bargains, Jacks Shoes, Old Homestead, Double Kwik, the Huntington Roller Rink and DancErgetics. Leta Mae Robertson, Glenna Sumsion, Reba Hansen, Annette Jensen, Lori Brady, Lylis Johnson all got triples and Leta Mae Robertson also got a homer for Price Steel. Consol 12, Jacks Shoes 6. Shirley Jacobsen and Kim Stringham both got triples for Consol. Shirley Jacobsen was winning pitcher. Flyers 12, Beaver Creek 6. Madean Lemon got a triple for Beaver Creek. Terry Rushton and Carolyn Gray got triples, and Michelle Wickman got a home run by hitting the ball over the 275 foot fence for the s Flyers. C Sheriff LaMar Guymon knows that a runner just doesn't get out of bed and run eight miles, so he goes through rigorous stretching prior to last week's road race in Huntington. Several members of the Guymon family participated In the races during the celebration. In Price Softball marathon to aid Easter Seals Society Registration for the 1983 Easter Seal Softball Marathon in Price has been extended to Aug. 15. The Marathon will be held Aug. 27 at the Price North Complex. The Marathon is sponsored by KUTV-Chann- el 2 and Wendys Old Fashion Hamburgers, and is open to all softball teams in the area mens, womens, and slow pitch. A $50 fast coed, and deposit registration form need to be sent to the Utah Easter Seal Society by Aug. 15. Interested teams can get more information by calling the Softball Marathon Hotline at 486-393- 4. Participating teams will receive two cases of a Coca-Col- a product or beer, a trophy and a team photograph. Other prizes include baseball caps, tankards, parties at Wendys and gift certificates from Stevens-BrowSports Company. The team raising the most n money over $1,000 wins 52 cases of a Coca-Col- a product or beer and two round-tritickets on Frontier Airlines. Money raised from the Soft-ba- ll Marathon will support p direct service programs for disabled children and adults in Utah. More than 96 cents of every dollar raised in Utah stays in Utah to fund programs such as community recreation and orthopedic equipment purchase and rental. League Swamp Angels 9, Merchants 3. Trudi Griffin made a good triple and then made it home on an error for Swamp Angels. Trail Mountain 16, Horizon Hustlers 7. Betty Martin got a homer for Hustlers. Carma Neilson was winning pitcher for Trail Mountain. Price Steel Fab C 14, Smiths 7. Kaisa Mortensen and Cheryl Oviatt got triples, and Julie Atwood got a good triple but got out trying for home for Price Steel. After Hour Angels 21, Charmers 9. Wendy Black got a homer, and Patsy Stoddard got a triple and made it home on an error for After Hour Angels. Mechants 5, Horizon Hustlers 3. Laura Mikkelson got a triple for the Merchants, and Laurie Fox was the winning pitcher. Swamp Angels 16, Price Steel Fab C 9. Kaisa Mortensen got a homer for Price Steel Fab. Merchants 12, After Hour Angels 11. Wendy Black got two homeruns for After Hour Angels, and Tammy Jensen got a triple for Merchants. The game went into the eighth vicious cut by Mary Lou Warner of Trail Mountain sent the ball into right field on this play in recent Emery County Women's Softball League action. Photo by Larry W Davli Big game deadline nears Utah hunters have until 5 p.m., July 31, to apply for deer, restricted area elk, moose, antelope and buffalo permits. Application forms and big an-terle- ss game proclamations are available wherever hunting and fishing licenses are sold, and through all Division of Wildlife Resources offices. Application forms include a return envelope for mailing, or applicants may address an envelope to: Utah Big Game Permit Drawings, P.O. Box 16500, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84116. Only mailed applications will be accepted. Hunters have until Aug. 5 to buy open bull or archery elk permits. Fees for all special permits are unchanged from last year. Division of Wildlife Resources officials say they expect a good hunting season this year, with all big game species in good condition statewide. |
