One of the things he will strive for in the international if elected is the elimination of political appointments. I would say 90 percent of all tabulation will be released the day after election. District 22 is one of the smaller in membership, but largest in area of the UMWA districts. It was established on Jan. 25, 1890. Getting the message out to the local unions and unifying the union are the ways to help this image, Anderson said. We should be more united and not have so many contracts like we do now. Everybody should be involved, the locals have been kept in the dark too long and only a few people have been carrying the ball, he said. A grass roots movement toward a better union, the way the pensioners established it is a concern during the campaign and in office should he be elected, Anderson said. District 22 Vice President Mike Dalpiaz is a candidate for the presidents spot in Tuesdays election. Dalpiaz was elected to the vice presidents post in 1979,. re establishing the position after a more than absence from the district. Dalpiaz said one of his hopes should he be elected is to create better communication in the three-stat- e district. My main duty will be to follow the guidelines of the union constitution, but I think its also important to start a newsletter for the district, Dalpiaz said. The boundaries of District 22 as vice president of Local 1859, two years as chairman of the mine committee and two years on the safety committee. I gained experience from ar are 300 miles from the headquarters in Price and its important for all the members to know whats going on. Dalpiaz has been a local union vice president and a fire boss at Price River Coal as well as mining at Peabody Coal and Valley Camp. He said he has also defended members in court cases for the UMWA and has handled grievance procedures. Dalpiaz said he has experience in local government affairs as a member of the county health board and Selective Service Board. He is 28 years old and has been a union miner since 1971. Dalpiaz is married and is living in Helper with his wife and three children. District 22 Vice President Jay Frandsen, Castle Dale, is running for district vice president because he would like to see more training from the district to local union leaders. I would like to see local officers learn more about filing grievances, the process that it follows. I would also like the local safety committees more aware about safety laws and what impact the committee has on the mine concerning safety, he said. Frandsen, a local native, has e Dove been employed at mine the past six years. During that time, he has served two years Des-Be- serving on the committees. The mine committee is where I learned about the grievance system. That is why I would like to see more instruction given to the local committees about how to better their effectiveness, he said. I would like to see efforts made to get all the miners in the area into the United Mine Workers Association, he added. Communication is the campaign ticket District 22 vice presidential candidate Fred Lupo is running on. Im going to strive for better communication for the United Mine Workers of America, to work for the membership and help us be better united, Lupo said. He has been president of Local 8303 at Price River Coal No. 3 Mine since 1979. He is a material man and has been in the union for more than six years. We need to come together for better training for mine com- mitteemen and safety committeemen so that they can help protect their rights, Lupo said. This goal can be reached under the direction of the vice president following the district presidents lead, Lupo said. The vice presidents jurisdiction covers all aspects of mining; construction, surface and underground mining. He said he has had four years of experience in arbitration and grievance proceedings for the union. Union Board Sub-distri- Member Deer Creek Mine roof bolter Fred Crespin is a board candidate. If I am elected I would work for sub-distri- ct the members and find out the wishes of the members, Crespin said. The position on the board deals with arbitration and third-ste- p grievances. Crespin said he has grievance experience at the local level. of Crespin was 1981s Labor Day celebration. He has been a safety committeeman at Deer Creek as well as recording secretary at Local 1769. He has been a union miner for more than six years and lives in Price. Robert Pasitano, Ferron, is board running for the seat. He has been a mine committee chairman and secretary at Local 2176 Wilberg Mine and a union miner for seven years. Pasitano works as a motorman in the mine and has a degree in accounting from DePaul University. I think what we need is unity among the locals, thats our biggest problem, Pasitano said. We should be working together instead. sub-distri- ct District Secretary-Treasure- r Cato Wagner of Local 1769 at Deer Creek Mine is running for secretary-treasure- r. served as vice president, mine committeeman, safety committeeman and local auditor.
