The song "The Twelve Days of Christmas" should be probably be rewritten as the "The Sixty Days of since Christmas," "Christmas Day" seems to begin once Halloween is out of the way. In our case, presents have already been decided on and most bought. The Christmas tree went up when it was still November, complete with packages underneath and tinsel and wrapped candy canes hanging from the branches. In the past always I thought it was ridiculous to get a Christmas tree earlier than a couple of weeks before Christmas day. But that changed last year, when we waited that long and found out there weren't any left around here. So this year, the first time saw a tree for sale bought it. I I The driver of the trailer truck that Monday lost its brakes and rumbled down Center Street in Castle Dale used the phone in the Progress office afterward to notify his company. We talked for a bit while he was here. told him he was pretty lucky not to have hit anyone I and walk away from the rig unhurt himself. "Luck isn't what you call that," he told me. "It's got to have come from all those hours I've spent on my knees the man up there.' " We then talked about the hazards of different kinds of work and he mentioned that it must be good to have a "nice, safe" job like working for a newspaper. said. The questions the order without a strong show of opposition. The county, school district, special service district, State Senator Omar Bunnell and others have represented the area to the PSC voicing their concerns. Now it's time for the businessmen, homeowners, farmers and everyone else to make themselves heard. A strong showing of support and interest at the public meeting tonight is essential. It is an excellent opportunity for county officials to hear directly from the people how they feel on an important issue; and vise versa. We encourage everyone to make an effort to attend tonight's meeting, and to attend the PSC hearing itself beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. of With the Public Service Commission having scheduled a public hearing Dec. 14 in Castle Dale, residents of Emery County will have a unique opportunity to make themselves heard. Too often, it appears people on the Wasatch Front think it's a lot farther from Salt Lake to Castle Dale than it is from Castle Dale to Salt Lake. Everyone with an interest in the outcome of the proposed sale (and that's everyone in the county) should take a serious interest in the hearing. Everyone should be heard and everyone should speak in an informed voice. To that end, the county and school district are conducting a hearing of their own tonight, Dec. 6, at Emery High School at 8 p.m. Since the Public Service Commission ordered the sale in the first place, it may be reluctant to rescind Orangeville There has been reports of vandalism and robbery of cars in the community. Second, with the trimming of the tax base, the amount of bonds the county and its taxing districts can sell to add water and sewer systems, roads and classrooms is reduced. Third, the county's bond rating may be hurt, meaning a higher rate of interest and less works and services for the dollar. Fourth, local property taxes should be controlled by local elected officials, not someone who doesn't know the needs and concerns of the county as well. Fifth, a precedent may be set and further such sales may take place in the future. At stake is something everyone in the county will be living with one way or another as long as they're in the county.
