Richard Franklin Jardlne, 79, pioneer of th Snake River valley, died at hi home Sunday morning. Mr. Jardlne was bora In Lanarkshire, Scotland, in 1842, and cam t America with his parents In 1555. After arriving he worked In the Pennsylvania coal mines for a few years and removed to Salt Lake In 1869. While in Utah he resided st Wells-vll- le and also In Weber county. He married Luna C. Ellsworth, granddaughter of Brigham Young. In 182, Mr. Jardlne cam to th Snake River valley and built and furnished th first house In Lewisville. He was th first bishop of Lewisville, which position he held for twenty years. At the time of the organising of Rigby stake, Mr. Jardlne was appointed high counselor until 1922, when he was appointed patriarch. Mr. Jardlne always worked for the upbuilding of the country, building canals, making roads and helping with all the surveying of th valley. He helped the new settlers to locate and kept open house for all who cam through the valley. Hie health began to fall ftv years ago and he was taken seriously 111 -- seven weeka ago with leakage of the heart.
