Show r EMERY COUNTY November Now that the smoke of last weeks political battle lias cleared somewhat, and all of us can take a backward look, certain aspects arise lor consideration. We recall tliat at the time of reapportionment of the counties, during the 19(55 Legislature, Emery County as a whole felt they had lost their right to state representation, and they cried to high heaven about it. Yet in last Tuesdays General Ejection, the county demonstrated by its voice that it really didafter all, nt mind or not being represented in our state government. Emmery County cast a total of 2213 votes to Grands 1827 votes, plenty to have elected their representative without any aid from Grand at all. We therefore, are forced to believe that our county did not care about the as much as it led us to believe, or it would have given its incumbent a greater margin of votes. Or, if the party that opposed her had not been entirely satisfied with her service to the county, why did it not show that dissatisfaction by running an opponent from OUR OWN AREA against her, so that at least, we could have had ONE representative from Emery County, .instead of meekly, or better, jubilantly, presenting Grand County with two representatives, while we ask for none? How generous, or stupid, can we be? We feel that Emery County, either by default last Spring when it failed to run an opponent on the ticket against Mrs. Conover, or by default this last electio, when it handed Grand County both a Senator and a Representative, proved that reapportionment was no issue, and that County loyalty or representation in state affairs does not mat--' ter to Emery County. Some have even seemed quite elated at our loss of representation. We dont feel that Mrs. Conover has been that bad a representative. We feel that she has represented this county fairly and honestly and in a highly commendable manner; t A consolidation of the Emery County Progress and Green River Leader SERVING EMERY COUNTY SINCE 1900 Second Class Postage paid at Castle Dale Post Office, Castle Dale, Utah 00 Subscription Rates: Inside County, $3.50; Outside County, $4 i f Published every Ihursday at Castle Dale, Utah Editor and Publisher in mtu.R LARSEN ator RAY E. Or, could this have been the very reason for the lack of support she received. Human beings being the strange people that they are, we wonder; could this have been the very reason that some of our citizens voted the way they did? Another item of interest to us, and something that concerns us, and should concern the entire county and state, is this: The last legislature appropriated $150,000.00 for the purpose of research and study to effect a more capable, efficient and economical state government. The monies were spent for reasearch studies which were performed by professional researchers who gleaned facts and figures from every states constitution and government in the na-tiFrom these facts and studies the members of the Lttle Hooveri Commission wrote their recommendations. Members of the last two and three Legislative sessions were cognizant of the needs for improvement in our state government They were steeped in knowledge of and the rec- ammendations of the exhaustive and comprehensive study by the Little Hoover Commission. Now, with 70 of the 1967 Legislature being new members, gnorant of the imen tinned needs, and quite probably against ay changes, what is to become of the $150,000.00 study that was designed to make our states operation more efficient and economical? Will this expensive knowledge lie on the shelf, be discarded only to be begun again, or go unused? Will we continue, as a state, to bury our heads in the sands and ignore our needs for a ' more modern government for our state? We ask you, did you think before you voted? Do you actually fed that you acted for the best welf are of our state and our county in the November 8th election? 16, o. Issued this 14th day of Huntington City Council Shirl C.
