Show EMERY COUNTY Page Six Women's Confab By Civil Defense North Emery FFA Report Activities By Kay Jensen This has been a busy summer for the North Emery F.F.A. Chapter. Our activities have included a swimming party at the Price pool and a picnic in .the park on Aug. 10th. The F.H.A. joined us on this occasion. Eighty three members were present. Later in August our advisor, Frank Hall, called a meeting to tell us of the purchase of two purebred gilts for the chapter, and of two more given back to the chapter for gilts awarded last year. Twenty three of our members prepared and exhibited animals at the Southeastern Utah Junior Livestock Show. We exhibited twenty head of steers, seventeen head of lambs and thirty head of swine. Chapter member Royce Allred's pig was selected Reserve Champion. Dale Van Wagoner placed first in fitting and showmanship of swine and Craig Johansen placed second in fitting and showmanship of beef. Now as the school year starts we are welcoming thirty-si- x freshmen boys as "prospective green-hand- s into our agricultural program. Planning To Retire Planning for partial retirement Our calls for a clear understanding of earnings restrictions on receipt of Federal old-ag- e insurance benefits, Mr. Kesler T Powell, manager of the Provo social security office, said today. Many older workers do not understand, he explained, that in order to decide how many benefit checks may be payable in the taxable year in which a claim is filed, all earnings in the full taxable year are counted. For every $80 or fraction of $80 over $1200 earned in the year of filing a claim, one months benefit Is withheld. A worker who earns $1282 in the year of filing for example, stands to lose two months benefits he may have been entitled to receive. This is true whether the amounts were earned before or after the month of filing. The restriction on amount of earnings applies to all years during any part of which lie was under age 72 and entitled to social security benefits. Mr. Powell said workers planning partial retirement should also be aware of the exceptions to the general rule. Regardless of total earnings in the year, no entitled worker will lose a benefit for any month in which he does not earn more than $80 in employment and does not render substantial services in a business or profession in which he is After he attains ege 72 he will lose no benefits regardless of the amount he earns or the extent of his work. Total earnings for the full year, however, are taken into account in deciding whether the worker may receive benefits for all months before he attains age 72. A free pamphlet entitled "How Earnings Affect Social Security Benefit Payments is available on request. The social security office is at 159 West 5th North, Provo, Utah.
