B:th on the Democratic and Republican side it was a close contest, but more interesting than that was the results. Mrs. Conover now meets Mr. Conover in the general eltction come next November. W had one person ask if they were man and wife. We are happy to report that politics has not got to the point where man and! wife are opposing each oher on the same ballot. They can cancel eacn thtrs votes, but that again is something else. Just how the Conovers are I find, is that Jsss related, Conover is the uncle of Harry Conover, husband of Eva Conover, who is the political aspirant to the State House of (Representatives. We might mention that they are still friends, even though one Is a Republican and the other a Democrat. Another interesting sidelight on Tuesdays election was the activity of the candidates ana other intrested persons. It was through the Influence of can-aida- ts and! others that we attained a large vote. Being next door to the polling place here in Castle Dale, it was interesting to note the various candidates urging, and! in some cases transportation foi providing voters to get out and make then Rex D. Guymon At the clase of the polls Tuesday. Emery county turned in one of the largest and closely contended primary votes in the history of the county. A total of 1,846 votes were cast in Tuesday's election, with 874 placed on the Democratic side, and 972 on the Republican. This compares with Democratic votes and 632 Republican vetes cast in the last primary election of a presidential year, 1952. Total votes cast in 1952 was 1513, showing an increase this year of 333 votes. According to the county clerk, there were approximately 2700 registered voters in the county at the time of the primary, with about 67 attending the polls. It is interesting to note also, that in 1952 58 of the total votes were chalked up by Democrats, while the Republicans However in garnered only 881 A-3- Gary L.
